Unmm...scoring is the same as being on 3rd still needing, most likely, a base hit to score? Any hit to the outfield should score a guy from 2nd with 2 outs almost everytime. Never make the final out at third.

It was a horrible decision to go to third with 2 outs if it's even going to be close. Give the next guy a chance to drive you in from 2nd. If McKinstry can't score on a single to the outfield from 2nd, screw him. Just a low IQ play. There isn't that much of an advantage being at 3rd over 2nd with 2 outs, at least not a big enough one to risk being thrown out

He was out. Sucks that he took a run off the board. You can score from 2nd on a base hit to the outfield almost as easily as you can from 3rd. Never want to make the 3rd out at 3rd.

God forbid if Carpenter gets an at bat against a left handed pitcher. I honestly think Hinch would have had guys like Barry Bonds, Ted Williams, and Babe Ruth in platoon situations had he managed back in the day.

I think houston will take care of the problem today after they lose yet again. Nothing like backing into the playoffs by losing almost everyone of their last 15 games or so.

Not to turn it into a trash on Bobby Scales thread, but how does one get a premier mlb radio gig by being as bad as he is without being some player who was a legend or hall of famer, etc.? Pizza Boy probably would prefer to pitch Skubal on Sunday if it means they can win the division. Two home games with attendance, parking, and concession revenue. It'll help pay for the Alex Cobb terrible signing.

I would think you would want Skubal to pitch in the series. It's a best of 3 series and you have a huge advantage in one of the games with Skubal out there.

Hypothetical question. If Houston loses on Saturday and the Tigers win, they will clinch the playoffs. Would they pitch Skubal on Sunday trying to win the division? I wouldn't and would rather have him ready to go game 1, but the smartest man in the room might start him.

Harris signed Torres. That is the only positive thing he did in the last year for the major league club. He went into the season with the worst SS and 3B combo in the league, didn't address SP depth in AAA, and made the team worse at the trade deadline by bringing in a guy who had been washed up for 3 years, and a guy who was always one of the worst starters in the league for the last 6 years. Harris will be back though.

Regardless of how the game on Saturday turns out, the Tigers will still be alive on Sunday.
