  1. Skubal will need to shut out the Phillies to have a shot at a no decision tonight. has it gotten that bad?
  2. So what? Signing guys just to trade them is such a loser's mentality. Wasn't the rebuild over? If they don't watch it, they will lose close to 100 games this season.
  3. Well I guess you told me. Either you love the crap that is out there or you are no fan. I humbly ask for your forgiveness because you are a true fan.
  4. Maybe the math says 7%, but in reality, common sense should narrow it down to 0%. There is no realistic possibility this trash roster makes the playoffs. They have nothing to look forward to. Flaherty and Skubal are going to be traded. Flaherty this year and Skubal by the deadline next season. Olson probably can't wait to get out of Detroit. Mize is a bottom of the order guy. Tork and Keith aren't going to be anything special. I imagine they will probably trade Greene by next season too. A horse-bleep owner and a horse-bleep franchise. If the owner doesn't care about the quality that is out there, why should we care about supporting it.
  5. Mays batted 5th quite a bit so it isn't as strange for him to get as many ABd in the 2nd inning.
  6. The tigers will end up losing 100 games this season.
  7. Hinch is proving, that without cheating, his managerial skills are on par with his mlb hitting abilities. The sad thing Hinch's career OPS at .636 is higher than Torkelson, Keith, Baez, and Rogers this season. That shows you how awful these hitters are.
  8. I just don't see this front office finding someone even half as good as JD Martinez from the scrap heap. Their talent awareness is on the low end.
  9. Because Hinch has more years on his contract and Ilitch isn't going to pay two salaries at the same time foe a manager.
  10. There isn't any one else to try. That is the price of handing the organization over to someone as incompetent as Avila. The hitting coaches are a low hanging fruit, but a hitting coach can only do so much. They can't just make someone have talent. You can give the greatest chef in history rotten meat and just a lighter... and the food will taste like bleep
  11. I really think they have a great shot of losing 90+ games. They would need to go 38-50. 38 wins sounds very tough with the garbage hitters. All it takes is Skubal losing his confidence, maybe Greene getting injured and Flaherty traded. Face it, if the pitching isn't lights out, this is an easy 100 loss team.
  12. This is the problem with putting out a steaming pile of dog crap on a nightly basis. Fans just tend to lose interest. I know growing up, the team was always so bad, I just didn't care. Even people who are fans are starting not to care. I don't think Ilitch cares because he is making money off TV contracts, and all the financial breaks he gets from owning the team. It's short sighted thinking but it is what it is.
  13. I don't know if ilitch wants to spend or not but he handed the organization over to a Matt Millen incompetent level GM in Avila. He set the franchise back to the bottom level it could be at. Hinch is responsible for what happened with the trash can just as much as cheaters like Bregman, Altuve, etc. He was there, knew about it, and was supposedly in charge. And whenever he talks about accountability, it rings as completely hollow and hypocritical.
  14. Lopez is pitching for the Braves. I'm not sure about the Braves' bullpen, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Tigers end up with 1 or 2 hits today. Skubal is going to have to be near perfect. Even one little slip might be one too many.
  15. You can say that about a lot of guys. Most people's memories of Cabrera are a big, out of shape, rotund guy struggling to hit the ball out of the infield with any sort of force and hoping he doesn't snap his tibia waddling to 1st base. I think the same thing is going to happen to Verlander. He is going to stick around trying to get 300 wins. He will be like Steve Carlton back in the day.
  16. He isnt even the best pitcher still active. Kershaw is by far the greatest active pitcher and you can make a case that Scherzer is better. Roger Clemens is the greatest pitcher of all time, in my opinion. Johnson and Maddux have to rate much higher than Verlander. Pedro Martinez was so much better than his peers for about 5 or 6 years straight that he has to be in the conversation. Sandy Koufax is still alive.
  17. I don't believe Harris is incompetent and he will do his best with the resources he is allocated. I believe Ilitch is hands off but would prefer to spend less since he is going to make money either way. I do believe he doesn't care if they win or not, but I also don't understand the business plan of all the day games. I assume the franchise decides the game times. And having so many day games has to hurt attendance and the money from concessions. I think roster construction is like a river flowing to the sea. It is constantly changing and players either sink or swim on their way. I was responding to a poster who thought Keith should just shift to 1st and was having problems understanding why anyone would want to put a below average hitter at 2nd base into a premier hitting position. Players fail all the time and if these guys there now fail, there should be players coming up through the minors to get their shot. I can't really say I am excited with Hinch as the manager. I think his lineup construction and shifting players to different positions does not help things. I think he is pretty shady and thought he should have received a lifetime ban, but that doesn't matter now I suppose. I don't know if the manager really impacts the bottom line that much.
  18. Bonds is the greatest player I have ever seen. During his playing days 85% of the players were on roids. He was just better. And taking roids doesn't suddenly make you a great hitter, and he had the quickest bat around. I also believe he started taking roids after Sosa and Mcguire had their HR runs. You could make the case that since MLB was happy for the home run chase and openly welcomed roid use, he didn't do anything that was frowned down upon. It was only after the fact that MLB suddenly decided roids were evil. But if you don't want to acknowledge Bonds, Pujols has a case.
  19. You can never have enough decent catchers. Plus if Dingler can actually hit, you will probably prefer he plays DH part of the time so he doesn't get injured constantly. Having a bunch of guys that can catch 80 games a year is a good thing.
  20. If the plan would be to put one of the worst hitting 2nd baseman in the league as your 1st baseman, a position that should provide your most power, then what the hell is the point of even constructing a roster? I understand he could improve as a hitter, but there are actually guys who can hit .230 with 30 hrs a year.
  21. So....now we are going to move a below average hitting 2nd baseman to 1st base? Keith would be the absolute worst offensive 1st baseman in the league. He has a .579 OPS, 3 hrs, and is basically a really bad singles hitter. He might get better, but his offense would still likely be bottom 3 or 4 in the league and he isnt going to help out on defense. If this is the plan, why not just disband the team?
  22. Why not go all the back 50 years before trout and ohtani played while you're at it. They have 9 seasons in a row with a losing record. Not sure what going back to 2000 has to do with trout and ohtani, but don't let those facts get in the way. No different than saying this iteration of the Tigers don't suck, because they won the WS in 1984.
  23. Whe ever I think how pathetic an organization the Tigers are, I can always look at the Angels of the past 5 years and know they had 2 of the greatest players ever and still sucked.
  24. Ilitch is making money off this garbage product, so it's a success for him.
