  1. The Pats went to the SB in 96, four years before Brady showed up.
  2. What is the rate for a .240, 12 home run a year first baseman? I doubt if he will demand big bucks in arbitration unless he improves a lot.
  3. What other options do the Tigers have? There isn't anyone in the minors that appears to be MLB quality they can put at first. Ilitch isn't going to pay for any FAs unless they are the bargain bin type of guys. He'll be 24 in August, so he is still relatively young. And it's not like Ilitch is trying to win anyway.
  4. He'll retire 2nd all time in GIDP. No one will ever catch him or Pujols.
  5. Can't Cabrera just strike out? Why does he have to hit weak grounders constantly?
  6. At first I thought it was just Miguel's home runs every year. 2023 would have been an easy year to edit.
  7. It can't be any worse than the WCF patch the Lions have had on their jerseys for the past 10 years or however long it has been since he passed away.
  8. Josh Jung is crushing it for the Rangers right now. Too bad the Tigers organization can't find guys like that in the draft.
  9. The Tigers certainly have more wins than I thought they would have at this point in the season, but I expect there will be a streak where their pitchers just go through a rough spell. They have a really quality bullpen though, and that is a big factor as to why they have as many wins as they do. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see them go through a really rough month though.
  10. On the Myers missed fly ball, you can just tell Graham Ashcraft is looking out at him and wondering why Wil Myers is even on the roster. It's not like he provides anything positive on offense and certainly isn't saving runs with his defense. He's kind of the Reds version of Jonathan Schoop.
  11. My son's school has a field trip planned to Comerica on Thursday.
  12. I can admit that I don't like or respect Hinch simply because of the cheating scandal. That's it. When he was hired, I seriously considered turning in my fandom card. I think he should have received a lifetime ban, but as for firing him, I really don't think the team sucks because of him.
  13. I really don't have any candidates. I just never got behind him because of the cheating scandal. I really don't think there is too much difference between managers. They are kind of interchangeable.
  14. Can't lose if you don't play!
  15. I agree 100% about his lineup construction. Maybe he just feels like it doesn't matter because none of the guys are going to step up and succeed. I think with the way teams are constructed with so many relief pitchers and so few bench players kind of hurts the ability to make a lot of moves by the manager. Also, when Cabrera doesn't play, it really is only 3 guys on the bench. I think a manager has to just go with the guys he puts in the starting lineup and see what they give him. In this instance, I kind of put the blame more on the front office because they constructed such an awful team.
  16. I understand your frustration, I would like Hinch gone just because I think he is super shady, but the roster is constructed for failure. Sure, it's easy to say they should have pinched hit for both of them, but the guys coming off the bench aren't exactly top tier hitters; most of these guys wouldn't have a shot at even being on rosters of the other MLB teams. A chef can't magically make rotten food into a gourmet dinner.
  17. That will remain a hypothetical question in all likelihood, because they are going to be right in the race for the worst record in the league. They will be 15-20 games out by the All Star break.
  18. Miggy struggles to even get the ball out of the infield. I can see him finishing up the season on the IL...maybe bring him back for the last home series and let him play in those meaningless games. He has been a below average to one of the worst in the league when position value comes into play since 2017. A negative 2.6 WAR since then. Prediction: .134 Avg, 0 home runs, 23 hits.
  19. I am not much of a Hinch fan, but what exactly should he have done differently? He has a roster and he has to put those players out there. Telling each guy to "go get 'em" before they step in the batter's box isn't going to help them become effective players. Ultimately it is on the player to either succeed or fail. No manager in the world is going to suddenly make a roster of cast offs and should be AAA players into winners.
  20. If anyone hasn't listened to Earl Weaver's Manager Corner clip from the past, you need to listen to it because it will bring you to tears.
  21. Also for perspective, Shawn Abner, the #1 pick in the 1984 draft who had quite a bit of success in the minors, had roughly 1800 PA before he made the majors at the age of 21. He ended up with a .227 BA, .591 OPS, and 11 home runs. He was a part time player in the majors until the age of 26. You can find examples of all sorts of guys who were in similar situations as Greene and Torkelson who finished with all levels of types of careers from Trout to Abner and everywhere in between (Gregg Jefferies was similar). You can't draw any conclusions from it because they are all different people who develop differently. Torkelson probably could have used last season in AAA, and I think he along with Greene might benefit from spending some time in Toledo this season to work on some things without the pressure of being in the majors.
  22. This is the awful thing about being a Tigers fan, looking to trade anyone that is remotely good in return for a bunch of crap prospects that probably will never make it to the majors. Avila was more about getting quantity than quality in trades. You can only have so many good field, no hit position players in your organization.
  23. Put the sole power threats at #8 and 9 in the lineup.
  24. It's almost like he just randomly draws a name out of a hat when he makes out the lineup, not that it really matters with this group of players.
  25. I don't think they really believe Jake Rogers is anything other than a .220 hitter and they are afraid if he plays too much he will tire out and show his true colors.
