John Kruk corrected a reporter once who called him an athlete with "I'm not an athlete, I'm a baseball player."

1983 topps

Mathematically and reality are different things. No way any of those teams even come remotely close to the white Sox. No one sane thinks the White Sox are going to make up 19 games on the Marlins.
-
This will be a tough match up for Mize, although Boston has lost 6 out of 8. Hopefully he can change speeds effectively.

Are you going to Chicago just to see the tigers?

Now I know why Xanax was created.

Yet had everything to do with your post about Mahomes only being able to do amazing things against 2nd/3rd teamers. The dude HAS DESTROYED everyone he has played against yet somehow your post makes it out like he can only beat up on scrubs. I even used all caps in my post too.

2024 - 2025 Detroit Tigers Offseason

Verlander isn't doing anything for anyone other than himself. I'm not saying it is wrong, but he isn't a giving caring type of person. -
Tork isn't getting moved in the offseason. What would be the point? Harris and Ilitch are not going to sign someone to big bucks to play first. It's his position next year.
-
sure...he can only do stuff against 2nd/3rd teamers. I guess all those playoff and super bowl wins never happened.

Malloy made the most sense. There was no way they were DFAing McKinstry.
-
I would assume that or maybe Malloy. AJ has a huge mancrush on McKinstry. I dont mind him on the roster but he seems to get way too many ABs.
-
McKinstry isn't going anywhere.

Well, a 17 year old isn't a grown adult. People get stronger after 17.

Baseball is like a roller coaster, streaks one way and then the other.

They could change the outcome of the 1985 WS because of one of the worst calls in mlb history.
-
The funny thing is those other team's are looking at their games with the Tigers and saying the same thing that they should win most of those.

I was a kid and asked Gibson for an autograph and he actually signed. Surprised after hearing stories about him later. When Stafford was the QB for Detroit, he was at a Pistons game and these two kids went up to him and asked for an autograph, he was getting ready to sign when his boss interrupted and told the kids to get lost. He meekly shook his head no to the kids as Kelly gloated over the kids. Just another reason I dislike her.

2024 - 2025 Detroit Tigers Offseason
tiger2022 replied to AlaskanTigersFan's topic in Detroit Tigers
The only people who want this type of crap are people who don't watch or care about baseball anyway. This is just an example of an institution or organization that cater to the 1% vocal extreme that doesn't buy or consume a product yet demand it changes. -
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if mlb doesn't step in and beg some of the teams that are out of contention to play some of their younger guys so the CHIsox can win a few games at the end of the season. I suspected the league told the Twins and Royals or whoever the Tigers were playing at the end of the 2003 to call off the dogs. They won 5 out of 6 to end the season.
-
And addressing the SP injuries, it really is unbelievable that an organization could not have depth at AAA to bring up several guys that can keep you in ballgames...maybe give the team 5 or 6 innings with a 4.50 ERA or something close to that. There are washed up vets, career minor league pitchers who might have had a few starts in the majors, or younger guys ready to go. Yet, the Tigers had none of those. And what kind of GM doesn't plan for injuries to the SPs? There really aren't any guys that could have been signed that can't give a team similar levels of production as Mize or Maeda? It makes me believe that a. Ilitch is unwilling to spend what amounts to loose change to have some vets in AAA ready to come up and pitch when inevitable injuries happen. b. Harris is indeed as lazy and incompetent as many people believe. Or c. They just dont care about the product at all. I just don't know what other options it could be. How can an organization not plan for something that 100% is going to happen.
-
One way to avoid this is to have a decent minor league system. I know everyone was screaming at the Orioles that they should have emptied out the minor leagues to get players at the deadline, but if an injury happens they call up a top prospect. That doesn't mean those guys are going to be stars but they have the potential to be good players. Plus they are not tied to paying average mlb players a bunch of money to retain them as they can replace them. I think it is important to have some up and coming starters or vets that are in AAA that can be plugged in the rotation when an injury happens. But injuries aren't an excuse for a front office because every team is going to have injuries during the season. Some franchises plan for it better. It says a lot about the organization that the Tigers need to have 3 bullpen days and throw a below average starter for day 4 to go with Skubal. Poor player development and acquisition on their part.
-
I think teams are more careful with players now. Look at how the Nationals handled Strausburg. In the 80s, he would have pitched 200 innings and had Dusty Baker ( ruined Wood and Prior) or Billy Martin ( ruined the entire A's pitching rotation) been his manager, probably at least 275 with 130+ pitches per game.
-
Their pitching has been really good for the most part and that has been keeping the team in games. Their offense has not been some juggernaut.
