  2. I would disagree, in this particular draft the top 8-9 players are on another tier than the remaining players according to scouts. The biggest thing though with the MLB draft is the ability to leverage your bonus pool to float players from where they would normally get picked to a later pick by offering over slot if you go under on your 1st or 2nd round. You don't get that in other drafts in other leagues. That being said the MLB draft is a far more of a crapshoot for hitting on your selections.
  3. Agreed, throwing in a Troy Melton or Brant Hurter to help get the deal across would make a lot of sense.
  4. Average, not as good as 2023 but not as bad as 2024. Luckily for us we are picking outside of the top 10 this year so we are eligible for a top 10 pick in the lottery since it would have been too many consecutive years picking in the top 10 had we done so in 2024.
  5. I don't disagree but this was from Yankee beat writers so it's not like they had a bias to load it to the Tigers side.
  6. This is from the Yankees writer for the Athletic. Yankees get: RHP Jack Flaherty Tigers get: OF Everson Pereira, SS Oswald Peraza, RHP Clayton Beeter The Yankees could use another starting pitcher. It’s not their biggest need but adding Flaherty would give them another option if Luis Gil ends up seeing his workload reduced, or if Carlos Rodón’s poor underlying metrics continue to catch up with him and he becomes a less-trusted option. Flaherty has been one of MLB’s best strikeout artists this season and he’s massively improved his command compared to last year with St. Louis and Baltimore. The Tigers could use more power. Pereira is out for the season after undergoing elbow surgery. He should make a full recovery. When healthy, he has 20-plus home run potential if he can control the zone better. Beeter profiles as a reliever long term but the 25-year-old has started in the minors with the Yankees. — Kirschner Bowden: Based on what I’m hearing from opposing GMs, the Yankees are not looking to add another starting pitcher as they are happy with their group which includes Gerrit Cole, Gil, Rodón, Marcus Stroman, Cortes, and Clarke Schmidt. The industry believes if the Yankees trade from their farm system it will be to improve at second base, third base or in the bullpen.

  9. Obviously, this is just who would be the best fit but I'll take Cooper Pratt for Flaherty.
  10. Hopefully this is something minor
  11. I think that just comes with a bit more time. Lucky for us the FSL has done a good job of having some stadiums with Statcast ability so when you look for his Ofers there are usually some high EV balls that are hit at people. Rarely does it seem that he doesn't get ahold of one or two balls a game and gets some high velocity behind them and put them in play.

  13. That is an interesting take on trading Skubal. I am not a proponent of trading Skubal let me just start off by saying that but let's view it through a non-we've been rebuilding for 7 years lens. Skubal is a Boras-represented player with arm injury history as fresh as last year and is signed through 2026 I believe so 2 1/2 more years. If Baltimore comes to you and says hey we are willing to trade you Basallo, Mayo, and a couple of others off of their non-top 100 prospects which addresses your future at Catcher and 3rd Base and some possible other fliers. I would be hard-pressed to pass that up. I know people are going to say you have to get Holliday but assuming you couldn't the above would be hard not to say yes to. Pitching injuries can happen at any time and Skubal has not shown the durability of a JV or Scherzer so while he is a fantastic player there are absolutely scenarios in which I would trade him and it not be seen as a white flag at least in my eyes but rather a calculated risk move.
  14. That is a good question because Malloy is still here as well (not doing the best but for right now he is here) Canha is probably moved to 1B full time. Baddoo is the obvious candidate to go down but even with that it's a pretty full once Carp gets back. If Malloy doesn't turn it around he's the obvious candidate to send back down.
  15. Hunter Greene doing his best Beau Burrows impression.
  16. Again, This is a Jim Bowden article so take this with a pile of salt. This is what more than 35 executives thought would be the best-starting pitcher, hitter, and reliever traded and 2 Tigers made the list. 2. Jack Flaherty, RHP, Tigers Flaherty has had a strong comeback season, going 5-4 with a 2.92 ERA and 108 strikeouts in 83 1/3 innings (14 starts). He’s been worth 2.4 bWAR. The 28-year-old is eligible to be a free agent after this season. 7. Tarik Skubal, LHP, Tigers There were two executives who mentioned Skubal, which totally shocked me. He has been a Cy Young Award candidate all year, going 9-3 with a 2.32 ERA over 16 starts with 112 strikeouts in 97 innings. He’s tied for the major-league lead among pitchers with 3.9 bWAR. And he comes with two additional years of control. However, both of these execs suggested that if a team like the Orioles or Dodgers decided they wanted to trade significant prospects — both in quality and quantity — there could be an offer so good, the rebuilding Tigers won’t be able to say “no.” Now that would be a stunner.

  21. And was named FSL player of the week.
  22. BA's statcast standout Thomas Bruss, RHP, Tigers Bruss made his first appearance in this series about a month ago. Since then, he’s started mixing in more of what looks to be a plus changeup. Baseball Prospectus rates the changeup as -1.5 runs/100 pitches, which means it will prevent 1.5 runs more than the average pitch per 100 pitches, including an incredible 59% expected whiff rate on swings. We’re looking at three distinct pitch shapes, with the changeup getting a lot of swing and miss. The fastball still has great velocity, averaging 96.5 mph, and he’s getting slightly above-average ride on the pitch. It won’t overwhelm batters, but it is very promising. As we wrote last month, it’s the type of pitch that goes from average to plus-plus if he can find two inches of ride (not an easy thing to do). The changeup is currently running a tremendous 37% swinging strike rate (whiffs/pitch) and a 60% whiff rate (whiffs/swing), backing up the StuffPro evaluation. The slider looks like an average or better pitch as well, given the fastball velocity and the true gyro spin. My confidence in Bruss as a potential big league arm is growing. While I’d love to see him promoted soon, that will also mean we lose publicly available Statcast data on him until he gets to Triple-A. With pitchers, the raw ingredients are often more instructive than the raw performance. Bruss has a lot going for him in that respect, given the massive 6-foot-8 frame and the velocity. If he’s still in the FSL in a month, will check back in again. He was a minor league signing earlier this year.
  23. Here is a proposed trade from the Athletic ; I'll be honest I would be pretty disappointed with this return. Parada isn't even ranked on Fangraphs and is 9th on pipeline. The proposed move: Mets trade C Kevin Parada to Detroit Tigers for RHP Jack Flaherty. The Mets could use another proven veteran starter if they want to make the playoffs, and acquiring Flaherty could improve their chances dramatically. Flaherty is having an impressive comeback season as he’s logged a 2.92 ERA over 14 starts with 108 strikeouts and just 13 walks in 83 1/3 innings. Entering Sunday, he was third in the majors in strikeouts per nine innings (11.7) and fourth in walks per nine (1.4). Opposing batters are hitting .234 against his four-seamer, .207 against his slider, .192 against his knuckle curve and .250 against his changeup. The price is going to be steep, but the Mets could part with Parada, a 2022 first-round pick, because he’s blocked behind Francisco Alvarez, who is their long-term catcher. The Tigers desperately need to improve their position player pool with power hitters. Parada, 22, is hitting just .209 but has nine doubles, seven home runs and 29 RBIs this season at Double-A Binghamton. Last year he hit .248 with 14 home runs, 54 RBIs and a .752 OPS across three minor-league levels. Most evaluators see him as a .260-type hitter with 20 home runs when fully developed. Flaherty will be eligible for free agency again this offseason.
