2024 DETROIT TIGERS REGULAR SEASON THREAD
LongLiveMaroth replied to chasfh's topic in Detroit Tigers
Flaherty's Savant page has lots of red. If he continues this path, you have to believe that other FA pitchers will want to come to Detroit simply by looking at how they helped Lorenzen last year and Flaherty this year. -

2024 Trade Deadline Rumors and Discussion
LongLiveMaroth replied to LongLiveMaroth's topic in Detroit Tigers
So both the Dodgers and Orioles had some pitching injuries over the weekend with Yamamoto and Grove being pushed to the IL and Yamamoto having a strained rotator cuff will be out longer than Grove and the Orioles had Bradish go on the IL for a UCL sprain so they may be looking to upgrade at the deadline even more so than before. -

The: "Can we not do this anymore?" 2024 MLB Draft
LongLiveMaroth replied to 1984Echoes's topic in Detroit Tigers
Another week another pipeline mock. We are about one month out. https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-pipeline-2024-mock-draft-june-13?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage 11. Tigers: Cam Caminiti, LHP, Saguaro HS, Ariz. (No. 17) While they might entertain one of the hitters already off the board should they still be available, there has been more talk about arms here, with Caminiti, the top prep lefty in the class, getting the nod over a college pitcher like Trey Yesavage from East Carolina. -

2024 DETROIT TIGERS REGULAR SEASON THREAD
LongLiveMaroth replied to chasfh's topic in Detroit Tigers
I think the shrinking of the minors has affected things more than expected. When they shrank the amount of players you could have and got rid of the short-season leagues it removed spots for some of the AAAA pitchers that used to fill the upper minors. When you have a limited set of players you can have as an org you will probably save more for spaces for players with untapped potential rather than a 28-29 year old journeyman. -

Agreed, I saw him in Midland last year a handful of times. Not sure he stays behind the plate but the power is there for sure. -
At least you got it out of the way so you can enjoy the rest of your day

2024 Trade Deadline Rumors and Discussion
LongLiveMaroth replied to LongLiveMaroth's topic in Detroit Tigers
I was thinking similarly, they have 2 catching prospects in Rushing and Cartaya and nowhere to put them with Will Smith as their main C. Cartaya was seen as a great prospect but hasn't been able to hit in AA but he is still just 22. Rushing would be nice but I don't think we would get him for Flaherty. -
I'll never get used to the way Greene runs.
-
Malloy doing his best J.D. Martinez impression with the 2 run double to blow things open 7-2 Tigers
-
Since moving to reliever he has a 6.08 ERA in his 7 appearances. He started to start the year and was moved to the BP. Vest's last 7 appearances 3.18 ERA. Turnbull even with the starting bump is worth .2 WAR more than Vest.
-
Kriedler smoked a ball earlier with a 105.9EV and it was caught but singles on a ball with a 69.5EV. That's baseball for you.
-
To be fair Turnbull is a reliever for them now and has given up earned runs in 5 of his 8 appearances. We already have a righty that does that in Will Vest.
-
Malloy #2 107.9 EV off Law

Franyerber shows up on Baseball America https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/analyzing-10-standout-complex-league-prospects-so-far-in-2024/ Franyerber Montilla, SS, Tigers (175 wRC+) One of the early favorites of RoboScout, Montilla has been a standout for the Tigers’ FCL squad. In 22 games, Montilla is hitting .346/.481/.556 with just as many walks as strikeouts and underlying data very much backs his performance. Montilla shows strong plate skills with a 13.4% in-zone whiff rate and a low chase rate of 16.7%. On the face of it, those numbers showcase excellent bat-to-ball and pitch recognition skills. Like with Sanchez, Montilla’s 90th percentile EV (102.7 mph) is above-average for his age, and he shows the ability to consistently elevate the ball with a 58% fly+line drive rate. Montilla shows a well-rounded profile at the plate and is one of the more exciting players in complex play.
