  1. FYI, the FB page White Stars, Black Sea is doing its annual Titanic month. It's quite interesting.
  2. Yeah, I think it and Born in the USA were both a bit overplayed even though I still like both of them. I've always had a special place in my heart for Badlands and Hungry Heart, though in recent years I've grown to like Streets of Philadelphia (even if the song at the end of the movie IS even better) and My Hometown. Maybe it's because I have so many relatives from NJ? 😉
  3. Man, that sucks. I definitely would never want to go back to high school.
  4. His status as an 'outsider' was also too extreme. Many Democratic leaders found him to be unlikable, so they chose not to work with him. Many of these so called liberals ended up cozying up to Reagan. I always thought it was his handling of the hostage crisis that put the final nail in his presidency's coffin, though.
  5. Let's not forget that he turned the thermostats in the WH down to 68 degrees and wore sweaters to keep warm. I seem to remember a Playboy interview that was pretty controversial at the time, too.
  6. That was Jimmy Carter in the late 70s.... imagine if we'd kept up his energy policies instead of having them actively reversed. While far from perfect, Carter's administration had a lot of really great research not only in energy, but in agriculture as well.
  7. Lack of experience isn't even close to his worst trait. In addition to his sexual assault comments, he also had a number of racist comments. And called people of Maine stupid. He sounds like a real pearl of a human being. And I wouldn't be surprised if he does turn out to be a Nazi. I suspect people like him for 'personality reasons,' which is more than a bit concerning. I'm disappointed that my Senator has endorsed him. Is there really nobody in Maine willing to step up who has progressive views without this kind of history? And shouldn't we asking for representatives who don't have this kind of history? I definitely like Mills better. Come to think of it, I like Collins better, too.
  8. Ultimately, rich Democrats want the same thing rich Republicans want: lower taxes. And since many of the ones in power probably think they'll be unaffected by the worst of the current regime's policies, they're not all that concerned about anything else. They're just more likely to leave a few breadcrumbs for the rest of us.
  9. They're part of the Quiverfull movement. And yes, it's creepy.
  10. I don't even wait-when you're famous they let you do it!
  11. True. And unfortunately sensationalism sells-especially when a megalomaniac is at the center.
  12. I'm thinking this is not exactly new. When I was school (back in the dark ages) people majoring in the arts/humanities/social sciences, and even business, tended to avoid science and math classes 'like the plague.' And I'd often find mistakes-though not anything as extreme as this example. Perhaps there were better editors and fact checkers back in the day, who did have some background in the sciences.
  13. My personal favorite is the 'quotes' by celebrities that keep circulating. One day it's Ron Howard, the next day it's the same quote from someone else. Or one day Ron Howard will be saying something in favor of 'left wing' causes, and the next day he'll be saying something in favor of 'right wing' causes. It does look like the latest one is in other parts of the media-but I still don't share anything without fact checking.
  14. It will be a sad, sad, day if Fuentes ever became POTUS, that's for sure. And I'm already sad!
