The Alt-National Park Service page, which was put onto FB after Drumpf part I gutted the department, is now active again. My guess is the Alt-EPA page will be up soon as well.

Today was my first day back at work after a 2 month leave.... and I am not used to being there to the point I can guess how a zombie might feel.

While I don't know if this is something that can be accomplished in a few years, there are those who would like to eliminate public education entirely.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he seems like the type of person who swoops into companies just to get their products, and has little or no understanding of how to build a line of products from beginning to end.

IIRC, there were some last time who also assumed this, and were surprised when they found that they and/or close family members ended up targeted. I'm sure most of us know at least one person who will scornfully point out that they 'already committed a crime' by being here illegally in the first place. Most people with this view won't listen to the point that asking for asylum isn't illegal, or that many undocumented immigrants pay a lot in taxes but don't get benefits in return. On another note... are the people in articles like this using assumed names? Because if they don't it sure feels like they just put a target on themselves and their family members.

There's also a way you can block a lot of MAGA bots on Bluesky, if you're so inclined. I used some of the starter packs for transit and local news. Twitter used to be a great place to find people involved in housing, transit, and city planning in general-hopefully I can find some of the same people again.

To whoever alerted me to the starter packs on Bluesky, THANK YOU. For months 99% of my feed was MBTA alerts about routes I didn't even know existed, and now I have an actual feed with actual topics.

When setting my thermostat, I'm trying to figure out the right set point-I don't want to waste energy but I don't want to freeze either. At least this one is easy to program.

One thing that I've noticed is how many people -good decent people- have decided that it's not worth it to get too involved in politics because of the horrible climate. This has always been true, but I feel as if MAGA has fanned the flames. And I don't blame them, you have to have either a will of stone or a death wish to run for anything these days. It sucks because we could really use more of them. It is what it is.

If anything, FEMA, and disaster workers in general, have gotten way less credit than they deserve in recent months.

Oh good grief. OF COURSE it is wrong for a FEMA worker to avoid helping people based on their politics. Do I think FEMA did this? No. That said, unless his supporters publicly demand that Drumpf stop saying that he's going to punish his opponents, and withhold aid from states that 'do not obey him,' and then follow up by demanding aid if and when a disaster happens in a 'disobedient' state, then I won't take their outrage seriously.

I'm also making a list of other services to no longer use... I think it's easy enough to not buy from Tesla, lol. But Bezos owns and/or runs a whole list of companies (not just Prime but Whole Foods, Grubhub, Uber, etc). I know that my not buying from them won't change his world, but at least I won't add to it.

I wouldn't be surprised if he lives until at least 100. He reminds me of that mean, spiteful uncle who just refuses to go away.

Twitter was pretty established by the time I joined so that may be why I was able to find content pretty quickly. And it'll take Bluesky a while, since a lot of people are so settled in at twitter. And somewhat off topic, why is Mush using an X that's way too much like the one Xfinity uses? I haven't tried threads. I'm only on FB because I have several groups on there and friends with common interests that I'm unlikely to interact with in real life or on another forum. And I'm not a fan of Zuckerberg either. Hopefully Bluesky will take off.

Bluesky is okay, it just feels a little too compartmentalized with the way the groups are. I do know that some of the urbanists I found on twitter are now on Mastodon, but I haven't tried that one yet. Let me know if you join Bluesky.

I am with you on this. And... I haven't had the heart to go to twitter lately so next time I do I'll just leave. It's a shame because I found so many people with common interests there but everything changes so there's that. I was already active in local groups, so I'll be involved in that more. As horrible as it sounds if a plan for the NE to form its own country came up.... I'd think about it. It's time to be with the people in my community and see what I can do. I'm glad I go back to work Monday, even though my foot is probably not healed enough. At least I won't have any time to be online. Onward!

Agree. One reason Democrats don't have a message is because they're not listening. And for better or for worse, the Republicans have managed to seize the opportunity to make it appear as though they're the party of the regular person.

The feeling of 'leftists' not being able to let go has already taken hold, in fact it started the minute certain leaders decided not to go ahead and convict T of anything.

TBH I have no idea how much of his agenda (including project 2025) T and company will be able to get through. I do think that the likely successes will be tax cuts for the wealthy, elimination of many environmental protections, and, whatever RFK Jr may claim, elimination of many food safety regulations. Whether or not Mush (spelling intentional) gets his way about trillions in cuts, the choice will be to either let the deficit grow, or to cut funding for research, transportation projects (especially public), education... you name it. And I'm guessing a lot more people's jobs depend on federal funding a lot more than most of us realize.

Except for the part that most puzzles me, which is his (IMHO false) image of being a successful businessman, I can go along with this. FWIW, in my experience Latinos aren't any more sexist than any other group of men. I think you're right about it being the overall environment. Democrats must become better about having a message, getting that message out, and countering whatever false information is coming from the Republicans. I still think that she ran as good a campaign as she could, considering she had significantly less time to craft it than T did.

This is also probably why most automated phone systems always say "listen carefully, because some options have changed."

In this case, I think they don't care about cost. The cruelty is the point. And anyway, any additional deficit will be blamed on Democrats.
