  1. I was planning to take a couple of days off, then start researching in preparation for the midterms. And then it will be the time to get active in our communities, and if you haven't already, follow your local government and try to make choices to make it a healthy one. There are a lot of organizations and people out there who could use the help. And... remember in 2016 enough people got together to keep the ACA in place until the midterm elections-maybe we can't prevent everything on Drumpf's agenda but we owe it to ourselves to keep trying.
  2. Of course not. Any kind of bans and regulations would be bad for business! If RFK actually believes that Drumpf is concerned about the health of the American people, then he's in for a bumpy ride.
  3. Oh, to be young and naive.
  4. The difference is we'll be happy for her. ETA: And I actually have a good life, one that according to JD is one that I shouldn't have been able to choose.
  5. Sadly I think you are right-I guess my bf isn't a typical Latino man.
  6. And he also says that there are whole departments of the FDA that need to be eliminated. On the one hand, I do agree that a lot of ingredients used in foods should be banned like they are in Europe, but gutting the FDA is NOT the way to make food safer.
  7. There has been for a long time, I believe it was originally started by the John Birch society, or something like it. I recently saw a MASH episode where the Frank Burns character mentioned it, though I don't know if the storyline was based on that conspiracy.
  8. I think she could have a future at a university. I suspect she'll go home to California and have a better life than a lot of the people who wouldn't vote for her will ever have.
  9. Which is funny because MA is one of the states that sends more the the federal government in taxes than it gets back-while many of the states that get more than they send in are the red states. If the proposal to end income tax really did end up being passed (and I don't believe for a minute that it will), I suspect those states currently being subsidized will suddenly think it's unfair that the money is being taken away.
  10. Ugh, somebody on my friends list posted something in which, among other things, said that Jan 6th was a hoax. Fabulous.
  11. So, looks like MA is still about 95% blue.
  12. Yet I commonly heard people say that his experience as a strong businessman was one reason they trusted him more on the economy-even though his history shows the exact opposite. Don't get me wrong, I think people voted for him because a lot of people like that he's cruel, but they don't seem to know just how much of a failure he has been. Being put on the Apprentice actually saved him from ruin.
  13. which is why somebody should have repeatedly reminded people of his 6 bankruptcies, his many failed business ventures (how do you bankrupt a casino??), and all of his unpaid fees to vendors and rally sites.
  14. Come to think of it, that happened in Boston also. If that's true then Abbot is a dangerous evil genius.
  15. That could be a product of the electoral college system also... if people not in a swing state think their vote doesn't count much, then they might figure it doesn't matter if they go out or not. Let's face it-it kind of sucks when you know that who will be represented by is dependent on only a handful of states. I would never not vote-especially since there are other races to consider. I can't speak for others. Or, they figure (and I do believe it's people left of center most likely to do this) that since the candidate of the majority party is going to win anyway, they might as well vote third party.
  16. Well it just worked for me, so there's that.... I'm on an iMac so I'll experiment with refreshing.
  17. My one observation is that if somebody switches from Biden to Drumpf, or from Sanders to Drumpf after their 'preferred' candidate is eliminated or drops out, then that person wasn't supporting the original candidate's positions. I leave it up to you to determine what the real reason or reasons might be.
  18. But.... her emails! and now but.... her laugh!
  19. Don't forget about goodbye coverage in the case of a pre-existing condition
  20. One last observation before I go offscreen to give my eyes and my soul a break. Childless cat ladies like me have been told we're bad for the country because we have no stake in its future. And yet.... a lot of people who told us this are the ones who want to dismantle public education, roll back protections for clean air and water, and weaken or outright eliminate child labor laws. For people who insist that they have a stake in society because they have children, they don't seem all that interested in providing a clean, healthy environment for future generations.
  21. (I'm out of likes, so have to answer posts) Most New Yorkers are awesome-which is why it hurts extra when people like Drumpf and Giuliani come from there. I know you live in NJ now, Sue, but I suspect NY is still in your heart.
  22. Between gerrymandering and the electoral college, Democrats have really had to over perform in recent decades in order to even get a small win.
  23. All I can say is this: as tired as I am I will look to see who's up for re-election during the midterms, maybe not today but by the end of the week. Turnout tends to be low in elections when the President is not being chosen so we do have the chance to improve. (not confident that will happen, but I can only hope)
  24. Technically Musk isn't eligible for the office unless they find a way around that, but I could see further sane-washing of Drumpf or even hiding that he's very ill so that he can act as the one pulling the strings.
  25. Yes, we have to get our message across to young men of any background-that means labor, emphasizing training in the trades, etc. (I'm aware this affects women too, there's just this belief, however mistaken, that men (especially white men) are being attacked by the Democrats or even that we're trying to eliminate them). As for immigrants... I do often think that the same thing that happens with women happens with them: if they are able to make it up the ladder, they will often pull the ladder up so that others can't climb up too.
