  1. As warped as it sounds, there may be T voters who think they're saving democracy, too.
  2. Maybe Vance knows how to play fiddle? Hopefully I'll be deported to someplace nice, but I doubt it. P.S. Doesn't vance mean bedbug in Yiddish? I seem to remember that from the crossword puzzle episode of MASH.
  3. If the ads I described a couple of pages ago are any indication, Drumpf, or whoever made those commercials, is hoping that women will vote for him because they're afraid that the 'illegals' and scary inner city people are going to attack them. And of course, the man who won't share an umbrella with his wife when walking in the rain is the one who will protect them.
  4. I agree. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't think they'll ever be affected (as we've seen recently, in at least one of the cases in the news right now) by these bans until they do find themselves in the situation.
  5. For some reason I especially want WI out of those 4. Maybe it's because a good friend of mine has an adult daughter with special needs and she's scared of what might happen to her.
  6. While I'm not following the news, he's already saying that he has won, as long as there's no fraud of course.
  7. Is the weather as nice there as it is here? It's a beautiful day to walk to the polls here.
  8. It is kind of upsetting that we're depending on high turnout from women, when men will benefit from a Harris presidency at least as much. Steady infrastructure spending, reliable funding for such departments as the NIH and USDA, and economists that agree that Harris would be better for the economy? Sounds like a win whether you're a man or woman. And.... just because women want to retain their rights, doesn't mean we want men to lose theirs and doesn't mean we think men are evil. Sigh...
  9. I am sorry. That is one of the worst things about this-families being divided. I may sound melodramatic but I do think it's the truth.
  10. That will be true if the traditional Northern Republicans are voting in droves. While unfortunately some of them drank the Kool Aid, many people I grew up with were even more adamantly pro-choice than I was.
  11. I am about to go to a followup appointment for my foot, then I have a few errands to do before I come home and read a couple of books that I got from the library. Sadly, when I'm anxious my stomach won't allow me to even eat very much, let alone drink. I haven't had a drink in more than a decade anyway, though.
  12. On another note, hopefully the right wing ads I'm seeing on this page will go away too.
  13. Will the Medicare part C ads go away soon? Unfortunately the $9/month life insurance ads last all year.
  14. I have books to read. I've voted, donated, and encouraged people to vote as much as I could.
  15. Looks like I spoke too soon. Last night while watching the Food Network I saw a disgusting Drumpf commercial filled with lies about immigrants, crime, and the economy. I feel sick. As I've said before, I work with a lot of immigrants that Drumpf likes to demonize-from Latin America and Haiti. They are good people, and hard workers. You know what part of the MSG rally chilled me to the bone as much as the Puerto Rico joke? Miller and his "America is for America only!" speech.
  16. Most of the ads here seem to be aimed at NH. If nothing else, we need to reform the electoral college so we can spread the anxiety more equally.
  17. So how do we distinguish between wishful thinking and a real reason to be optimistic? I just happened to see a post on twitter (I know, I need to get off of there) by a MAGAt who gleefully claims that since he saw a row of MAGAt decked pickup trucks on a highway, that NY is absolutely in play. Yeah, right.
  18. My mother worked on Clinton's campaign in 1992. She said he could make you feel like you were the only, most important person in the room. And my Mom wasn't normally swayed by people in that way.
  19. One take on why we're all so anxious: https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/2024-election-polls-trump-harris-close-rcna178483
  20. This. When it first came out I wished he'd at least said "That's none of your business." Lying at the grand jury was just stupid. ETA: I genuinely do think he's slimy, and that we need to pick better now.
  21. The elections that I felt the most certain about the outcome come Election Day were 1984, 1996, and 2008. The only one that completely shocked me was, you guessed it, 2016. I think social media, with all of its bots and deliberate misinformation, has really amped up everybody's anxiety. Is there by chance a rise in use of anti-anxiety drugs?
  22. You sent me down a rabbit hole. William Jennings Bryan and Henry Clay were the only two people to win electoral votes in 3 different presidential elections.
  23. Ugh, that sounds annoying.
  24. I don't remember much about Ford, but I think we all know that Carter made a lot of contributions to his country and society after his term. Bush Sr. and Clinton also did a lot of joint ventures as ex-Presidents.
  25. The only President I can think of who lost a bid for a second term but was elected again 4 years later is Grover Cleveland. That's going back quite a ways!
