  1. That's what gets me. One thing I've learned is that for many in this country, kids are good for a photo op or a sound bite. When it comes to doing something that will actually help and/or protect them? They might as well be trash. And I will never understand the hate people have for people who don't look or have a different faith (even though there's a lot about organized religion that I don't understand). And what makes it worse is that they seem to enjoy the thought of other people being rounded up and even slaughtered. I don't know if we can overcome this.
  2. I do think there are times when we've tried to do better, and for a while we were making progress. Unfortunately, for some even the small amount of progress we made was too much for their small minds to bear. And even worse was that there were enough of them, and enough money among them, to erase them.
  3. I picked up a copy of "The Story of Abba" yesterday at the library, thinking it would be a good light read for yet another weekend of colder than average weather. Turns out, it's a comprehensive history not only of Abba but of the music/social scene in Sweden and of Abba's reach throughout the world. Very interesting.
  4. I would guess it was a virus, and the reason the steroids is helping is because it's power against inflammation and congestion. My experience with sinusitis is that it can take anywhere from 4-8 weeks to fully clear. Anyway, congrats on getting better!
  5. He's not known for being funny or even having a sense of humor, so it's especially laughable when he or his apologists claim that he was 'just kidding.'
  6. Wait, it really was an unnamed staffer?
  7. I actually kind of like the idea of naming something "The Unknown Staffer."
  8. He had a habit of taking out full page ads. His hatred of NATO, for example, was the subject of one in the late 80s.
  9. Let's not forget the full page ad he took out calling for the death penalty for those 5 men.
  10. Sounds like a NIMBY. Though I guess it doesn't matter as long as it's not built.
  11. They're deliberately outing the victims as a way to shame them, and to let others know that it's dangerous to come forward when you're the victim of CSA.
  12. I think one politician said he didn't care if his mother was in it, the files need to be released. And without protecting the identities of the perverts!
  13. I've always assumed he was deliberately destroying it.
  14. He also, just before the election, stopped the paper from publishing an endorsement. Then of course he donated to the inauguration.
  15. I'm seeing memes that when Noem was governor of SD, her administration had a slogan that wasn't very well thought out: Meth, we're on it! Hilarious if true.
  16. For me there was something extra satisfying about pulling that big level and hearing the noise as all of the little levers went back into place. I miss that.
  17. True. As disgusting as the sentiment is, I can't help but think of a line from an old English novel: He's so unpleasant that it would be quite a misfortune to be liked by him.
  18. So I'm set to go back to work on Wednesday. I haven't even gone back, and am already being asked to take extra shifts. Good to see that some things never change. 😉
  19. So maybe he's not HItler. Maybe he's really Nero. He just has to get a violin that he can play in case of a fire.
  20. Oh, no. This really sucks. https://news4sanantonio.com/news/local/measles-outbreak-at-texas-immigration-detention-facility-confirmed-by-dhs-officials
  21. I also think the lingering vertigo/ear issue could be causing a lot of that. Is it getting any better since the last time you checked in?
  22. Very interesting. Thanks for the share!
  23. It's a week after the storm, and many of the sidewalks here are impassable, or blocked with snowbanks (caused by plows) that are quite literally taller than we are. The reason we're given for roads being the main focus is so emergency vehicles can get through, but isn't it also pretty important for them to be able to get to the buildings where the emergencies are? Also this is New England. While this amount of snow isn't so common in Boston, shouldn't we be able to deal with it better?
  24. And 25 miles of commuting is actually not short (especially in my neck of the woods, don't know about yours). I remember when my SIL found a job with a commute of 5 minutes instead of 40... her health and mood improved significantly.
