I get tense because people here are bad drivers to begin with and can barely drive in rain, let alone snow.

For the past few days, I've had the theme song from Leave it to Beaver stuck in my head. At least I find the show entertaining...

How does one start a Message Board?
LaceyLou replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in General Discussion
Hmmm... did this movie have a Gary Cooper who wanted to sing show tunes? I haven't looked too closely, but with the, er, challenges on Twitter lately some people are talking about a social media site called Mastodon. It looks like you start groups of people with similar interests. I don't know if it would meet your needs, but might be worth a look if you want something to try out. -
Not sure how I missed seeing this building before, I must have walked by it hundreds of times. My city does have some beautiful architecture.

On that note, why is there often a marathon of a show called Naked and Afraid on Animal Planet? And I miss when Discovery and The History Channel had documentaries about science and history. I do sometimes find shoes about WWII that are interesting on one channel (forget the name of it), but that's about it.

And, I have a small but very adequate walk in closet space and I want a few simple shelves. Why is that so hard to find? Do people really have the need for closets that look like they're bigger than my entire condo? Yikes!

Ah, FB. I finally gave up trying to get back into my old account (which I can't get into because I forgot to change my phone number on my profile). Still get alerts via email. Meanwhile, on twitter, FB has an account filled with people locked out of their accounts for various reasons-and they get multiple answers from bots offering to get their accounts back (I'm assuming their hackers). It's impossible to reach anybody there because they have no customer service. Yup, not a good platform. I'm thinking of going to Mastodon or Tribel.

Trying to find a Valentine's Day basket of goodies without chocolate makes me feel like the woman in a Monty Python skit, trying to find a dish without spam.

We should. Absolutely. The best part? There are people, including ones I know, who would provide a place for them to stay in a heartbeat. A little humanity and communication would go a long way.

Agreed. (also like the pun, intentional or not)

Speaking of commercials, the life alert commercials have made me decide that if I ever need such a service, I'll be looking for a competitor.

At least with cats you can leave a bunch of boxes to get them to stay put....

This was years ago now, but I'll never forget the flight home after my Mom (rest her soul) passed away. I was in the last row, and figured it would take at least 45 minutes to get off. Imagine my surprise when everybody waited until the plane came to a full stop, the door opened, and then proceeded to exit, 1st to last row, with people very easily grabbing their bags from the compartments as they filed out. It's amazing how fast deplaning is when people just wait their turns. I have a feeling that I'm not going to see that again.

I hate that I can't get the idea of getting a second cat out of my head, even though a, I know I should wait until I finish setting up my home and b, my current cat is still adjusting to her new home.
-
It's not a big surprise, of course. I was fully expecting one of them to switch to the Republican party.

That is very true, most people find our site by going out of their way to search for it (which makes it good, IMO). Your second point is also true... I remember watching one of the WS games in (I think 2000?) and the announcers went on for a whole inning about how they 'wished everyone would stop talking about that bat throwing incident.' People always say they want to hear calm, rational discussion but it's the mud-slingers who get most of the attention while the voice of reason gets ignored or called 'boring.'

That's the biggest challenge of winter... although I have to admit the dark makes it easier for me to go to sleep.

This is a tough one for me to say, since in general I support street performers/buskers, BUT only if they have talent, and only if they show consideration for people who might need to work and/or sleep. Example: there are some very talented bucket drummers out there, who vary their routines and have become part of the tourist scene. That said, there's a lot more to drumming than randomly banging on buckets, pots, and pans. I remember leaving the Garden after a Bob Seger concert (one of my all time favorites), and there was a bucket drummer there. Umm, I want to keep the songs of the concert I just got out of in my head (a 'fine memory'), not some random bucket drummer.

I have mixed feelings on sharing tweets from people like MTG.... On the one hand, I agree with people who say "Stop making stupid people famous," and am sick of the media giving "certain" politicians a lot of press because of the controversy they cause. On the other hand... people unfortunately do follow these people, and even more unfortunately actually will vote for them, and I'm a firm believer in knowing what 'the enemy' is up to.

Once I take my LATG exam, and once daylight only lasts from about 8 am-4 pm, I'm going to need books to read. I especially like historical (recent reads include The Warmth of Other Suns and Caste: The Origin of Our Discontent), and mysteries. Bonus points for anybody who can recommend a historical fiction mystery that also features cats! Thanks in advance!

Oh, that all sounds so familiar! Between construction, repairs, and utility work downtown Boston feels like the combination of a maze and an obstacle course. Good times...

That, or another drug. There's a methadone clinic down the street from me and he definitely bears a strong resemblance to the patients I see. Only difference is the patients I've met are far nicer than he seems.

Thanks Sue! Hope your day is special also.

Such a fine, upstanding citizen. Yikes!
