While I don't know a lot of Canadians, those I do know are already boycotting US made products. And some provinces are planning on banning sales of certain products. One that I've heard of is that liquor stores are planning to refuse to sell products from red states specifically. We'll see what happens when it happens, I guess.

Musk's minions have gained access to the treasury, and thus access to all of our personal info-including SSNs. What could possibly go wrong?

"Coin, operated boy....."

"St. Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go-I owe my soul to the company store."

When will Soylent green appear on the shelves?

They also pay a lot in taxes, so they're actually not freeloaders. Heck, they probably pay more in taxes than Trump does.

The Reagan administration's 'response' to AIDS was appalling-at best they ignored it, and at worst they made it into a joke.

The cruelty is the whole point. He likes that NIH and NCI employees are panicked-it makes him feel like a big man. And his supporters like that too-and if their medical treatment is impacted they'll probably blame it on 'the libruls.'

Too cool! Two other people at work share my birthday. It's weird because for decades I never met anybody with the same birthday and now all of a sudden I've met quite a few.

One of my favorite movies of all time! Hmm, I knew my brother shares a birthday with Wayne Gretzky, but I didn't know he also shares it with Paul Newman. That's quite a combo!

My father, and most of his circle, preferred not to talk about his service or things they saw and experienced-this seemed especially true of those involved in liberating any of the concentration camps. It probably wasn't healthy to keep it in, either.

True. I'm old enough that I grew up with women from the "good old days" when they had to stay in abusive marriages, couldn't get a credit card or a mortgage, and good luck if you become a widow because you were encouraged to not get an education or if you did, to not ever be able to make more than your husband. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I think you and I grew up up seeing, hearing and even experiencing some of the same things that we'd hoped we wouldn't see again. 😞

There are people I choose not to engage with for this reason-even when it's a topic I'm interested in. I guess in my old age I've learned to choose my battles more wisely, and to only work on what I know I have the power to change. FWIW, this is true not only here, but IRL and on other platforms as well.

I would hope they'd put back the footage of the women WWII pilots also. I they don't, that says a lot.

It's worth noting that a big part of the lack of affordable is that in many areas, not enough is being built. Unfortunately zoning laws and NIMBYism has made this problem worse. If I didn't own my condo, I wouldn't be able to afford one in my neighborhood today-lowering the interest rate to 3.5% from 7% is never going to make a 1.4 million condo fit into my budget. I'm starting to see more people open to new housing, and multi-family housing in particular, but we have a long way to go.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll look for it.

Well, we can't have African Americans and/or women aware of any of the contributions they've made to this country, now can we? In recent years, I finally learned about the AA women who worked with (and played a big role) in NASA, and women who made contributions in the field of astronomy. I think there's a small but loud group of people who don't want certain people to have role models.

My guess is he's hoping for another housing crisis so that when people lose their homes his rich buddies can swoop in and buy them all up.

Let's not forget the pause on anything coming out of the NIH, CDC, and FDA...
-
That's when it began, yes. I'd blocked it out, but I seem to remember him claiming that they cause cancer.

Exactly. This is one reason why noted right winger Ted Kennedy opposed windmills that were going to be too close to the Kennedy Compound in Cape Cod.....

I'm so glad that we have somebody to tell us what we like and don't like... I actually thought I liked those things!

Plus if they aren't tracked, then diseases don't exist.

My guess is that most people don't realize how many jobs are supported by NIH funding-not just researchers but their technicians, admin staff-even doctors and nurses when the organization is a healthcare provider as well as a research institute.
-
My guess is that funding will come with more conditions... certain types of research will be banned if it doesn't fit the current regime's agenda in some way. We've already seen scopes of research become narrower since about the mid 90s (must study acute forms of disease, etc) but we might see (I hope I'm wrong) certain types of study banned or given strict limits on what they can or can't do. If I were another country's government, I'd be looking to take advantage of this-by recruiting talented scientists and their studies/discoveries that might otherwise have worked in the US.
