One of the reasons I'm glad Logan is located in the center of the MBTA is that I don't have to spend an arm and a leg on Uber, Lyft, cabs, or whatever else people have to spend on. And it's a big reason I hope we can save public transportation. We've already lost much of the bus network that used to go just about anywhere in the country (including to my brother's town, population app. 900). And I'm guessing public transportation has a gigantic bullseye all over it, even more than it did before.

I'd guess that's true of a lot of those working for delivery services such as Grubhub and DoorDash.

Every time I hear about that second song, I remember a piece Mad Magazine did in parody of Carter's Presidency which had musical numbers. There was a 'song' by his brother to be sung to the tune of Tie A Yellow Ribbon 'round the Old Oak Tree' but the lyrics became 'try a Pabst Blue Ribbon, you'll feel good you'll see..." In other words, I prefer it to the Lee Greenwood song now. 😉

I think they want a new gilded age.

True, although I disagree with those who want to burn it down. While not perfect, there's still an awful lot in this country that works well and/or can be fixed. And honestly I think Oblong's point was that people who are able to spend a whole day shopping probably aren't struggling nearly as much as they claimed-and I agree with him.

And let me guess... instead of supporting small businesses they went to big box stores? And how many of the labels on that stuff say 'made in China?' Asking for a friend....

Between cars, trucks, mopeds, bikes, and scooters, I think it would take forever to list all of my peeves when it comes to traffic here. But... one that has bothered me lately is construction workers who insist on parking on the sidewalks near my building. The road is mostly closed to traffic while they're working (including no through traffic at all), and there's plenty of room for them to park at the curb. So why do they have to block the sidewalks, which are already less than perfect?

Cats should be kept indoors. They're not native to the US, and can do a number on local bird populations. Also... average longevity of outdoor cats is about 5, for indoor cats, 12-15. Need I say more?

I've never heard of Mission BBQ... though TBF it probably isn't a restaurant I would choose.

Not sure about now, but fashion was and maybe still is a big industry there.

Why is it okay for them to have "Truth" Social, but it's not okay for liberals to have what they call an echo chamber?

One of many reasons it's hard to take seriously when his supporters cry about women's fears of being assaulted in bathrooms.
-
As a survivor of rape and CSA myself.... I don't care if a trans person uses the bathroom with me.
-
I'm guessing no.

And... I'm guessing that many of the billionaire 'experts' (Drumpf, Musk, etc) have way softer hands than most liberals.

Sounds like if she had to get it done, she definitely picked the right time. Mobility is something I've always taken for granted. I have a lot more appreciation for it now.

There were a couple of athletic shoes she recommended. They're definitely mostly pricey, but not all of them are outrageously so. She didn't specifically recommend any particular brands, though-mostly guidelines of what to look for. At least I can get around a bit, so that I can try some on in person. Getting around Boston on a knee scooter is an exercise in futility....

Come to think of it, it does feel a little like we're in an episode of a game show.

Yes, it's definitely telling that people automatically think that those who are good with their hands can't possibly have the ability and/or desire to study anything else (or that book smart people can't be good with their hands, for that matter). And I'm glad to see that a high performing school offers both, because it means that it recognizes that both are important.

And then people wonder why others think they're heartless. Go figure.

One thing I read recently that made me stop and think was that there are still people alive who knew people born into slavery. The 1990s seem like a long time ago to me, even though it's when I came of age, so I can understand people looking back at the 1970s and thinking of them as the 'olden days.'

Is there any truth to a rumor I heard that Drumpf could, on his first day of office, dismiss civil service workers based on their SS numbers? I did a quick search and couldn't find anything.

Trying to find post-bunion surgery shoes. I looked at one website for recommendations, and a moderator took out all brand names mentioned. While I understand the issue, it's frustrating because knowing which brand names make a good shoe to wear while my foot continues to recover is exactly what I need to make the search easier. Also I tried on shoes half a size larger than normal because they didn't have any in the size I've been wearing for years, and it appears that I've been wearing the wrong size. They feel way better, and not just on the foot that's recovering. Live and learn, I guess.

Nope, they haven't. You've just described one of the oldest negotiation tactics in the book....

As I have said since 2015, it's worse than that... people seem to believe that a man with 6 bankruptcies and multiple business failures is better because of all of his 'business experience.' And in all those years, not one of his supporters has addressed this. His talent seems to be to convince people that he's a lot better in general than he is. And yes, women are often treated differently in the workplace, in the ER-just about anywhere. We've still got a ways to go. That said, I do think the US will catch up eventually and elect a woman as President. We may not live to see it, unfortunately.
