  1. Either way I'm of the opinion that he made the best decision of two or three horrible options. The emperor and generals could have prevented it by doing what they did shortly after. It was their "code" that killed all those people.
  2. They seem to be pretty far apart on the CBT... my understanding is the owners are actually offering a worse deal in that regard than what expired, once you factor in the penalties. If the owners have learned their lesson and are being smarter... then why do they need it? I always viewed the NBA salary cap as not a deterrent for out of control spending but to ensure the players a certain % of revenue. Make the penalities voluntary. If the owners are so noble and good to each other they should pay it. 18 MLB owners are asking the players to make sacrifices because those 18 owners don't trust 6 other owners. The owners can do this without colluding.
  3. Yep. Ingraham and Tucker got their marching orders and the internet trolls and bots follow suit.
  4. It's been said that by the time Truman became President there was no way to stop the bomb.... the train was already at high speed. He also had no idea the research was going on until he became President.
  5. This is where being president really sucks. No good options and when your option doesn’t stop it, neither would have the other one by the way, the critics hammer you for not picking that other one I’m not in favor of troops but I have no problem handing over as much equipment and weapons as possible.
  6. not a good sign for this case I assume? Their resignations came after Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg suggested that he had "doubts about moving forward" with the case, and throws the future of the investigation into doubt, per the Times.

  8. George Cantor.
  9. No, it wasn't Jerry. I cannot think of the guys name right now but he was the beat guy in '68 then transitioned to op ed style things, which is where I would read him in the 90's. He also hosted some shows on WJR. He passed away probably 10 years ago. It's bugging me his name....
  10. Plus we are allowed to run them over now
  11. If I had to bet $1000 on whether Dick Morris was dead or alive I would not have placed the bet because I wasn't sure.
  12. "Nobody wants to work"
  13. It's the same feeling I get when I go to a concert. You are outside, maybe waiting in line. You get in the lobby, walk around, get a drink then go out into the theater area and see the stage and drums set up, the lights, the soundboard.. then it hits you why you are there.
  14. The NBA owns the G league. MLB doesn’t own all of the minor league teams. They own some of them but for instance the Toledo Mud Hens are their own business unit. There’s no contractual reason stopping them from ending affiliation with MLB and entering an independent league. Obviously they would have to provide their own players and staff at that point though.
  15. What I don’t get is what does Vlad think will happen? Is he naive and thinks everyone just rolls over? Didn’t he know sanctions would come?
  16. I now we won't 'delcare war' but things beyond sanctions are not ideal either.
  17. A friend of mine worked in a bank's check processing center in the early 90's and the Tigers used this bank. He came across some player's checks. One was 80K and the other 50K. They got this twice a month. These weren't the best players either. They were regulars but it wasn't guys like Fryman or Fielder or even an Eric Davis. When you see it split up like that you can see the magnitude I think. Another friend had a connection to Jason Varitek, his friend's cousin. They went to Chicago for a weekend and the Red Sox were in town. He invited them to the hotel bar. This group of 6 guys rang up a bill for a few thousand. It was a fancy hotel so drinks were marked up quite a bit I assume. Jason took care of it. Didn't think twice about it. It would be like us buying a couple of hot and ready's for a group of guys that came over.
  18. This whole thing has given me an impending sense of doom... here we are looking like we're coming out of COVID and now we might have WWIII? Even if this is just contained "over there" it's going to disrupt things everywhere. How do you declare war when Russia is involved on the other side and not fear nuclear options?
  19. Abigail wrote John some terse letters about women being able to vote too.
  20. Yep. That can be directly led to watergate. He was worried about them finding out he had a back channel to Saigon, as a candidate so they created their plumbers to go after Ellsburg. He also knew that LBJ bugged his campaign plane, and LBJ knew he knew so they had to dance around that. Mutually assured destruction.
  21. Ike moved like a snail on civil rights and segregation, if at all. He was even too afraid to give an outright rebuke to Joe McCarthy because he needed Wisconsin. JFK lacked courage on civil rights too because he needed to be re-elected. JFK's benefit is his brief time in office and staving off nuclear war. The country was on thin ice for much of it's history and a President who "did the right thing" would have probably ended it.
