Gas powered lawn care equipment should be banned for home use. Anything that requires the use of ear protection by its operator should be permit based, meaning rare. For special projects. I’m sitting in my house and unable to watch TV because my neighbor just has to do it now. It’s damp and raining and the leaves are heavy and they just picked up our leaves last week. But dammit the lawn has to look like a putting green AT ALL TIMES. I took a vacation day today since tomorrow is a holiday for us. Just want to watch The Thing, man….

If you haven’t watched the special on Netflix on We are the world, you should. It’s amazing.

I knew avout the Taft/Ike rift but do not recall a meeting in my readings, I read two books that would have covered it. That primary wasn’t the slam dunk I would have assumed as someone not alive then. In a plot twist…. Taft during what would have been his first term.

I’m interested to hear this. From what I read he was always a Republican but kept it private due to the military. When he returned from the war and was in their parade Truman, in the car with him, offered him the slot in 1948. “It’s yours if you want it”. Ike wanted to make some money. They had a falling out over Korea. They reconciled the day of JFK’s funeral when confusion left Truman without a car ride and Ike gave them a lift. Truman asked if he wanted to. Come up and have a drink and that was that.

You would think Mario would have the decency to ask ahead of time if he wanted to. Then they could play it out live as id if were spontaneous

I wouldn’t rule out Reagan challenging Ford again in ‘80 especially if things stayed sour for Ford as they did Carter. “See, I told you so”. But who would the D’s have run? I’m not familiar with the bench at that time.

I hope a Harris admin can figure a way to get Musk out of SpaceX.

WTF? https://x.com/gelliottmorris/status/1853136958161047622?s=46&t=rTECiCzi2O-lytdgFWVzfg to paraphrase Dr Strange, they should tell us this before election season.

“We don’t know what we’re doing” is a hell of a way to make a living.

In TN I saw Blackburn ads where she threw “China” on the floor in an effort to show she will fight China

Another benefit is the narrative will switch to “democrat” run states being incompetent.

She wants it to come down to Warren so she can get attention and perhaps try a few things. In the end it will fail but could be good for her future if she gets to be on Fox News a lot.

Kamala did fine and her performance will be indicative of why she will win, if she does. Just the smile itself. It didn’t come across as politician fake. It’s refreshing. People are tired of Trump and his negativity.

I forgot his name too. In 2016 the episode before the election had the famous Trump voter black jeopardy sketch. Tom Hanks played Doug. I got the same vibes.

What happened at Cobo was the most disgraceful thing to happen jn the city since the riots. A bunch of white people demanding they stop counting the votes of black Detroiters. My wife and I lost a friend over that. He was down there and we both flat out told him we are done with him. The police should have tear gassed those people out on to Jefferson and and March them up Woodward to Highland Park or up Gratiot a few miles. Then as Marcellus Wallace said…. They can get mideivel on them. I’m half joking.

In a mid 90s stand up special Dana Carvey did a bit about framing OJ Simpson.

I don’t think it was staged. Never bought into it. Too many agencies and people would have to be involved for it to work. That kind of thing just isn’t possible in reality. I don’t believe in JFK conspiracies either. Too many things outside the control of planners had to fall into place. I could spend hours explaining why. It’s easy to look back at an event and speculate but that assumes all the events happening naturally that led up to it.

In Halberstam’s book The Fifties, he talks about this. Depression. Drug use separation from their families as with suburban expansion that often meant their parents were back “in the city”. It wasn’t leave it to beaver or Ozzie and Harriet. (He uses the real Nelson family as a nice rebuttal to that alleged utopia. Ozzie was a real prick).

I just read the USSS released another report yesterday. The news article cited the lack of farm equipment that was supposed to block the line of site from those buildings. Pre planning said they would be there. Also failures in meetings before hand with multiple agencies present. They were not well attended. And the heat of the day required many attendees be given medical treatment and that diverted the efforts of law enforcement. That’s on top of what we already have heard.

Exactly… like I never knew that Dave Winfield was a superb pitcher in college, leading his team thru the college World Series. He could have pitched and hit but didn’t want to play in the minors so he stuck with hitting. This was in a section about Ohtani and he didn’t claim he would have been as good of a pitcher as he was but still… and I didn’t realize that Sid Bream’s walk off was the only come from behind walk off that came at the “last” possible moment of a series. Meaning if he makes an out then it’s over and the other team wins the series. All the other walk offs we know came with the score tied or not in a game 7. He sprinkles anecdotes in like that when discussing other things. Any baseball fan should read his books. You WILL learn something. I promise.

I voted for all D on my ballot except for Rashida. For that one I went Green Party. Not voting for a Republican for a very long except for extreme circumstances. In uncontested races I left it blank. Other races for judges I left blank too.
