Agree with all of that. Players are not finished products when drafted. There isn’t a super secret decoder to finding the good ones in the 13th round. The franchise was epically bad at this going back to the 80s. It was written off as if they were victims of their own success either from low draft position or losing picks from FA signings. Bunk.

I also think there's some benefit to having Benetti, as a national broadcaster, linked to the Tigers. Especially as an employee although most people won't know that fact. It shows some legitimacy as an organization that they would have a guy considered a top broadcaster to do national games, rather than some local guy they can get cheap who was available, like the former guy.

I'm not so sure Benetti wants more than he's got now in terms of national work, except to one day do the big games. . He gets to be grounded most days with the Tigers and still do football nationally. Maybe his deal with Fox for football required him to do baseball for them as well or he would like to one day be a prime national crew. That's not a conflict with his Tigers work other than we lose him from time to time. There really isn't a full time national baseball broadcaster on the networks. Most national TV broadcasters also work for individual teams. Joe Davis for example works for the Dodgers. Brian Anderson works for the Brewers. Wayne Randazzo works for the Angels. Sean McDonnough works for the Red Sox.

certainly I am being selfish but I also think the players deserve an on the field celebration in front of the fans, with fireworks going off. It would make great TV. I don't expect a repeat of the ALDS celebration over the Yankees in 2006 (That was 19 years and a disappointing final week pent up frustration at play). But MN is playing like a dejected team so I'm not sure they're going to win the next two games and I can't root for the Tigers to lose so we'll see.

Throw in Greektown. Hamtramck has definitely changed but it still kept its charm in terms of all the small bars and clubs. Lots of young people live there, squeezed out by the gentrification of other hipster neighborhoods in Detroit by the trust fund babies from out of state. You can go in many places most nights there and find good music being played.

Nope. I already had tickets anyway so I turned those in for Saturdays game. I do not have the tickets they were giving me. I had to get them from my rep before the game. They do that so nobody sells them or gives them away. It’s unfortunate especially when they began hyping this home stand but they are doing the right thing. Today’s forecast looks spotty so they need a large window to play. This evening is when they’re chances for T-storms so they want to avoid that.

Really the only difference between him and Mickey Redmond is just a few degrees. I don't look for objectivity in my home announcers. I want them rooting for my team and speaking about things from my perspective. I loved how sometimes he'd talk about Jim Price and they'd bust each other's balls.

Maybe, depending on whether they got insurance and what kind. From what I could find online, he didn't technically retire. He was not medically cleared to play. During the off season he had to be on the 40 man, then when the season starts, transferred to the 60 day injury list. The Tigers were responsible for $6M each year, the Rangers for $18M. The Rangers got insurance that covered half of their end. That would be a nice break for the Tigers.
