I think they are just selling the current situation rather than saying "Well the guys we tried stink..." Always talk up your current group as if that's what you wanted. Until you move them. Be "happy" for who you have for the "ball club".
-
I fully expect them to lose 2 of 3 to the Rockies and take 2 of 3 from the O's.
-
Do you think it's a strategy or just how things worked out based on who was available, who was here, and who has been performing?
-
season tickets are a big part of a base in attendence and I know there was a big drop over the last few years. That kind of thing lags with team performance and I'd also throw in the Lions success could have made some people make a choice, especially people with both as the LIons raised their prices this year. I could easily see people saying "Well I'll forgo my $2000 investment on the Tigers, go when I want to, and save that money for a couple of Lions games on the secondary market or a playoff game.

I don't think so. Red Wing games get out around 9:20. I agree that games going past 9:30 is an issue with kids in school but I also think at that point in the year those with kids in school that are concerned about being out late already don't go. Kids involved in activities already are lost since they have those things to attend to. The only time I think the 6:40 start times make sense are the games in the beginning of the year when cool weather is an issue. You are already fighting it so give yourself some options. It can get pretty cold in April by 8:30 pm so yeah, get in and get out. But in September when it can still be only light jacket weather at night it's not a problem. It's not until October and the playoffs when you find yourself in hat/gloves season. During the playoff runs I've worn shorts and T shirts to playoff games and dressed like it's the arctic. That's life in the midwest this time of year.

And I’ll add the earlier start times combined with the pitch clock… that means even if you decide to go the game could be over by 8:30. For some people that’s an hour and a half if they can’t get there until close to 7. At that point why bother.
-
I will be at the Tiger game but thanks to 6:40 start times and the pitch clock I will probably be home in time. I’m sure I will but Sue is right. One candidate will give coherent answers that address the question. The other will just go off on a tangent and ignore and the moderator and press will pretend nothing happened and it’s all normal.

I agree on that side effect. It may be unintended but in general this idea that the police are authority figures rather than public servants and getting people used to seeing them everywhere is a dangerous path. It can be harmless if they are acting as a deterrent, like when you see them at large sporting events. But it’s not a leap to think that can transition to a scenario where they just start questioning your presence and can tell you what to do.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was very good. If you liked the first one. It was fun.

We went to see Beetlejuice 2. And had dinner at…. Outback. A place I haven’t been in 20 years. But someone got us a gift card so we had to use it. I saw the game on a TV far away in the restaurant. Outback hasn’t changed at all. Not the menu. Not the decor. Even the prices weren’t much different. We talked about going there on our first vacation together in 1995. It was over $50 before tip and that was my threshold back then for an expensive meal. This meal was $75 with 2 drinks and an appetizer. Beetlejuice 2 was fun. Very fun.

There is no risk to keeping him as you can stash him in Toledo but I wouldn’t let his presence get in the way of any plans. Approach the off season as if you need a 1B and more RH bats and see what happens

Cheney’s endorsement shows that today’s GOP is far removed from the party of Reagan and Bush. To those low information (not stupid) voters who are busy living their lives and not paying attention to details like us dorks, it presents another data point to enforce the idea that maybe both sides aren’t the same. A lot of people do think that. They see references to multiple trials with Trump and these former republicans going against him… again it doesn’t take much to make a difference.
-
I would add to Lee’s point - do you think you can fix him and is he willing to do what you think is required?
-
I would think replacing Tork would be easy enough. This team at this stage can’t wait any longer and honestly even in a best case scenario how good would he be? Pride can’t factor into the decision and it won’t. It’s a one day story. Anybody picking 1:1 that year would have “blown it” to the talk radio crowd.

Meanwhile in 2024…. i don’t see the point in bringing up something from 2003 as it relates to today unless it’s to somehow bring legitimacy to the idea that maybe his vote for Harris now is wrong. Grow up. You are going to agree with people on issue A and disagree on issue B. That is how the world works.

In England it’s “nice one”

I see it 4-5 times a day. I go on brief 5 minute walks thru out the day and on my walk I see it as I come up Westminster Ct. looking right at me.

I learned about him after watching Chinatown and reading a few books about the movie. The character of Mulray was loosely based on Muhlholland. I had no idea on the history of the valley.

I am not scoreboard watching because with the # of games behind and the # of games left... they have to win. They won't be backing into it by the othe teams losing. If the Tigers win, then I'll check the other games.

Well you could go all the way back to the first VP, John Adams. But that's not fair. In recent times maybe John Nance Garner. He was FDR's VP in his first two terms and they had a falling out and he became a critic. I don't know if he endorsed republicans but he wasn't happy with Roosevelt.

I don't know what's real anymore but Nate Silver was trending on X and with all the bots and stuff.... but allegedly he's bought by Thiel so his forecasts are getting trashed.

that game feels like 2 weeks ago

My original point abou the "My pleasure" thing is that it tells me that the business has an attention to detail and so do the employees. It's a sign of jobs well done. Not for feeding my ego but, like the Van Halen Green M&M's legend, it shows a level of completeness and quality. They are making an effort at customer satisfaction.

I like to thank them to show that I respect their job and that I don't look at them as my servant. I have some friends who do not do that because they figure "We paid good money, they're not doing us a favor" and I resent that. I did that kind of work. We're all just trying to make a living one way or another. That's why I posted it in the pet peeve thread. It's not a big deal overall. I see it as a lack of training and the business itself, the corporation, has to make that emphasis. The family owned deli I go to every Thursday does it right. They thank me for coming in and tell me they are happy to see you. Now if the server or cashier does something above normal duties, like throws in extra napkins or offers to double bag my item... something.... then if I say thank you and they say "You're welcome" then it's warranted.

I didn't listen, just watched, and didn't follow up but man... if you charge someone like that you gotta do better.
