I would agree that we need to fix our immigration system and that we certainly have room to increase the numbers when it comes to making people citizens, but it seems that you're essentially advocating for open borders. If the USA decided it was going to let everyone who showed up at the border in to stay, there would literally be a billion people flooding into the country from all over the world.

Last year, the USA processed around 7.3 million visas. That's 20,000 per day if you're working all 365 days.

So instead of buying a $500 gun and paying $550 after taxes, it'll now cost $600. I don't really see that making any difference as far as the number of guns on the street.
