2024 - 2025 Detroit Tigers Offseason

yup - looking at his relative performance in the two venues, we probably should have just ignored all the talk from the beginning. -
the advantage of a laptop rather than a phone I think. I find the site pretty unusable by phone, but the blockers on a PC browser are fairly effective. MTWG used to run a subscription service for the old site but said it was more costly to administer than it yielded. In general, if you are network savvy, apparently the best way to block ads at for you whole home network is at the DNS level using a raspberry PI at your router, but it only works if your router allows you redirect DNS, and if you are on ATT&T you are out of luck as it's locked down on their equip.

IDK, I think "I wanted to get more athletic and get out of the mechanics" is pretty much what they wanted from him. In the past Tork always wanted to take the same swing, but that swing didn't provide enough plate coverage. What he needs to do to succeed is put the bat wherever the ball is - i.e. by being athletic. Sort of like his buddy Riley, who swings in all kinds of different planes going to any field - to find the ball where it was pitched. If he can do that he'll be a better hitter but talk is talk, let's see what he can do. If he's actually made that big a shift, it does increase the odds he's going to start in Toledo to refine it if he can. -

Reports about Baez health all seem to be glowing. Getting anything out of him this season would be an unanticipated bonus. -
2 out of 3 ain't bad? You can be thoughtful and articulate and still have priorities and values that other people think are nuts.

ummm.. the January increase (0.5%) was more than the December increase (0.4%). The interesting question is whether Trump will be more worried about inflation or more dedicated to tariffs. In the current environment he can't be both because tariff's are a direct add-on to prices. Even if he were to get onshoring (which he won't without investment support) it will still be at the higher price level.

let's hope Edman is right about the roster move timing and this saga is over by the time the snow hits tomorrow. -

exactly. You hope any tiger offers is commensurate with the Tiger analysts' handle on what was going on there. -
In SE Michigan I'd consider 12 on the air sources pretty good. I'm more amazed there are 60 broadcast sources on the windy side of the lake.

I don't know how much the type of hitter per se that matters - when you start losing vision and processing speed it's going to get harder. What I think matters more is how good you were at your peak - it's how much loss of function you can sustain and still be a positive contributor. If your career best is 230/290/400 you're likely cut if you fall off 10%. If you were capable of 310/380/570 you may have a number of years of moderate decline when someone will still want you on their team. -
I suppose there isn't a simple answer to the question because it depends on what is an acceptable level of communication for each purpose. For instance if you were doing file transfers, you wouldn't care how many drop outs you had as long as the total rate of confirmed IP package reassembly was reasonable. So for that purpose maybe you are 'in range', but to watch a sporting event with a bunch of stops and pixelations with the same rate of good data transfer might be unacceptable. I should have specified I'm interested in hearing what kind of actual experience people have had with over the air digital TV broadcast.

sure - that's the other side of the coin. If teams have done their due diligence studying his last few years in detail and they don't like the direction they see, then he may well be sitting on opening day. It would be fun to have a sit down with whoever the Tigers put on that job and find out what they really think. That's the crazy thing about hitting, you really can be lucky enough to skew a whole season without there being anything real there, and conversely you can get enough bad bounces in one summer to have a crappy season while being the same player. -

so if the Tigers or some other team, have the best short term deal on the table, that could work to their advantage if no-one is willing to give him 6 or 7. I figure if he has two 6 yr deals on the table but wants seven, it's easier on his pride to reject both and take the interim deal than take either of the offers he deems insufficient. Basically do what Correa did. The counter argument is that Correa was still young enough to get the long term deal after a successful 'prove it' season. Even if Bregman has a good '25, the added year will be one more strike against getting the long term deal in '26. -
Hard to compare whether pixelation and freezing is better or worse than snow and ghosting. I think it may be easier to acclimate to a poor but consistent image than a better one that is in and out, but that could just be me, because that's what I'd known for years and am already conditioned to.

for now the rout seems to have hit support at 334. That's still a 5% drop on the day and 15% in 5 days. >Tesla has been the ultimate short killer. yeah - I'm waiting for the announcement that both the postal service and DOD will by buying Tesla exclusively going forward.

Of course we don't really know what goes on in his head, and a player's mien at the plate is usually carefully cultivated, but all that said, to me it all comes down to aggressiveness early in the count. You can't let yourself get behind taking called strikes. I don't know in Tork's case if it's because he can't put the bat on those strikes, or because he's intent on hunting better pitches to drive. You hope it's the latter because that's something he can change of his own accord. If his problem is he can't hit anything that isn't down the middle, then he's got a the bigger problem. I looked at a lot of his AB's when he was at Toledo and I think you could make an argument that he was trying to swing at more strikes, and when he came back up he was pretty hot, though it tailed off again but the end of the season. He's got a nice swing and huge power and he can hit a breaking ball. There's a ton of potential there if he can/will just cover more of the zone. So we'll see. -

they seem to have factored him out - at this point if he turns it around it will count as upside surprise. Petzold wrote the other day he thought he would spend the season in Toledo possibly working his way back for '26 when Torres departs. I tend to think the more likely scenario is that if he's going to make the breakthrough it's going to come quickly and he is either going to force his way back this season or we won't see him in the English D again. -
Jan Tesla sales down 33% from Dec in China, down 33% year over year in Australia. Stock hanging around the 100 day running average as of this posting.

Back in the day I had a roof mount max size array with an RF amplifier and could get enough signal but always had a lot of ghosting. I have to assume with digital you can't get ghosting from multi-path reception issues- but it can still buffer or drop out.
-
Seriously, since the conversion to digital, I don't think I've talked to anyone this far away (A^2) who is using over the air. On the west side of A^2 we never got analog over the air very well from Det even with pretty large antennae - Toledo was as good and then you needed a rotor to get back and forth. Is the range for broadcast digital supposed to be worse, better, comparable?

IDK, are new GM's a reality for Boras to adjust to or is Boras a reality new GM's have to learn to accept? Immovable object meets irresistible force! -
I could make an 'old man yells at cloud' lament about RAP in general but I just let you all assume one from me....

Yeah - I doubt Boras would keep any client that didn't. -
LOL, Remember not so long ago when the lament about the Pistons was how un-athletic they were? That's one they've put in the rear-view mirror.

Boras was unable to get Correa a long term deal in 2022, but that was more about his health than his age, so getting one for Bregman may be even lower probability. Just a fun note. It's the 'Boras Corporation', not the 'Boras Agency.' At least Boras is open about his priorities!
