HaHa - people will say this before the fact, but watch how fast everybody bails if it comes to pass. The human is always very brave about what they will do in the future!

I'm all on board with that one. And that's an issue that sure would've driven my vote -- if only I'd known.

From what I've read, that money isn't necessarily transferrable. I believe it has to be used for 'Tourism' related projects. Granted in FLA you might be able to drive some pretty big checks though that loophole since so many things relate to tourism, things like fix storm damage on beaches or other pubic areas, but it apparently can't be diverted to just general use.

2024 - 2025 Detroit Tigers Offseason

My uninformed take would be that Tork was encouraged to be a HR hitter before he ever got done learning how to be a hitter against ML pitching. I think he learned to be so focused on finding pitches to drive that when he stopped getting them from better pitchers, his game fell apart - so he's having to learn now what he was rushed to the big leagues without having learned when he should have. Can he do it? Beats me. He does have some assets: he can get around on velo, he has power, he has a good sense of the strike zone. The question is can he cover more of the strike zone? Stay tuned... -

Torkelson still on the team then.... -
Have to say that four years in this is not what I expected Steve Yzerman's organization to look like - not even so much the overall winning percentage but just the roster and style of play. I mean, if you look at the product on the Ice you would never know without being told that Holland wasn't still the GM. The whole team has an old player, old school, old style aura about. Which is all the more telling in contrast to where the Tigers and Lions have positioned themselves in their respective sports. I can't think of a worse indictment for the FO than that.

you also have to weight that against a 30HR season, which don't grow on trees either. -
What conceivable purpose is there is syncing anything to two places on the cloud? Absolutely predatory marketing to try and get you to use (read "buy") more storage. There should be a class action suit in there somewhere! I avoid cloud photo managers like the plague. I have photos backed up on my google drive but purely as archives. And if you have multiple apple devices good luck ever figuring out what is actually mirrored where and what happens when you try (and usually fail) to delete anything from a particular device. My answer to all this was to finally get a NetworkAttachedStorage unit. It just sits there quietly serving files 24/7, organized the way I want them and accessible on the net anywhere. And it talks to Linux, Windows and MacOS without prejudice. I use my google drive just for backup and collaboration now. My wife still fights with I-Cloud though, haven't weaned her off it completely yet.

That's where a lot of Autocracies start out. The playbook is just successively neuter the other bases of power by the death of a 1000 cuts. Installing docile judges is always one fundamental starting point and Trump is already a way down that road - thanks in large part to McConnell. And now suddenly he's supposed to be our great white hope? I'm not holding my breath.
-
Is it Lalond or is it the FO? Probably both. The talent pipeline hasn't been what it has needed to be, and the team's quality of play is regressing. I could also believe Yzerman has decided the only alternative is to tank one more time for another high pick, but then why spend the money on Kane, etc....

I don't know how Buckeye operates, but Comcast has the local franchise here and my issue with them in the past was that no matter what dl speed you bought, they gave you no upload volume. Every one is trying to get you to use cloud storage but it's it's pretty useless if you can't get anything *in* to it. I don't know if competitive pressure has forced their hand on that or not yet, but my fiber service has always been completely symmetric, upload and dl at the same speeds and no data clamping.

2024 - 2025 Detroit Tigers Offseason

We don't know much about their internal AB by AB evaluation or metrics of what Torkelson did or didn't accomplish at Toledo and on his return, so all we can do is speculate (it's what we do here!) since the org doesn't talk much, but of course that is what it all comes down to. I think the bottom line is that if they have decided go into ST committed to giving Torkelson in a shot at keeping the job, then a priori, they wont sign anyone who costs them any money or term commitment. And of course if they don't sign such a player before ST, the odds of signing them after ST are not zero, but small. In that case, the hedge if Torkelson doesn't produce is going to be this org's go to strategy, which will be to sign someone 'expendable' - i.e., an older mid level player in his 30's a la Canha, or a even a minor league free agent they think they see some upside in. To me this feels like the most like scenario for Harris. The other thing to consider is that if they were as done with Torkelson as much of the board is, one would question why he would be on the 40 after today. Cutting guys is one thing they haven't been shy about. -
I have to say I never guessed I'd be wanting both McConnell and Trump to survive another couple of years. But it's looking like at least two would be good......I suppose I could be wrong about Vance, but I'm not sure I want to risk finding out.

Sounds good to me. Lets see if his health holds up.

I agree he's a good add as far giving the Tigers just about the perfect hedge. It's the other side of the equation that may be more iffy. if you are PG do you want to sign here? If he didn't perform well enough to hold down 1B on some regular basis he'd be stuck as the DH against LHP and that may be less AB than he's willing to sign up for. -

Tork's replacement is already stalking him from Lakeland...except he's LH. -
Vikes aren't going away though. Going to have to win both meetings..

Deporting any large chunk of the undocumented worker population will also be very inflationary as it will drive up entry level wages across the economy as employers are force to pay to attract workers who have status to avail themselves of labor standards etc. Personally I think that it will be great for that to happen. It will really lift the bottom 10-20% of US workers. I think the big reason it was so hard to get political agreement on path to citizenship was not so much because there have ever been large numbers of people who wanted to see mass deportation, but because the Chamber of Commerce class has always known that the effect on wages would percolate all through the economy. Now with Trump, the people that have for years only talked a big game on immigration are going to have to deal with closing the border and deporting people. Rover has caught the UPS truck -we'll see if he can avoid getting run over. I've always believed it has been immoral policy for the US to allow people to stay but not give them a route to citizenship because the only reason to do that is to maintain an ability to exploit their labor unfairly.

A number of years ago I worked on some natural gas storage tech with super high surface area activated carbon. It 'worked' in terms of the carbon storing the gas at liquid like densities, but this was a synthetic carbon that was produced as powder and no-one ever found a way to pelletize it to sufficient strength without killing the surface area. That work was with GRI back in the day so I wondered given the Chicago connection. It wasn't what killed the project but an amusing unforeseen glitch with storing nat gas by adsorption is that you can start with safety odorized gas going in, but you get de-odorized gas coming back out. Oops.

I had thought Shelton had just disappeared but he did knock around the minors for a couple more seasons and in fact was able to OPS at 950+ twice at AAA only crash on call-up each time. So maybe a mental block thing or maybe he had been right on the edge for handling MLB velo or spin and just fell off at a younger age than most. I've always had a theory about guys having career arcs that start young with great reaction time, then build with strength and eventually fall off as vision as reaction time are lost. A great player may cross those limits at 19 and 40 and have a 20yr HOF career in between, a marginal player may only get a couple of years in his mid to late 20's when he peaks high enough to stay in the majors.

any connection to GTI?

I don't know exactly what the top is for the type of fiber they run to houses. I believe the fiber itself is capable of at least 10gbit/sec. My router has one 5 gbit/sec ethernet port but the service is capped at 1g.TBH, not that many sites will transmit to you that fast anyway.

I didn't say they could make it work, I just said it would at least be a plan! Seriously, I think SY may have to make some changes in his org and they won't be popular with either the fans or SY himself because there are some fan fave ex-players in the org now who might need to face a tougher performance review than SY has given them so far.

Sell all the old guys at the deadline - restock picks, bring up GR, lose big - call this an investment year. At least that would be a plan. And maybe a new director of scouting....
