Most likey there is as much variation in management styles for baseball managers as for any other kind. Some are probably delegators to their coaches, some are probably more hands on, some are buddies with their players, some make sure to retain distance, etc.... I will grant anyone's special cases all day long, but anecdotes and corner cases usually don't help make good social policy arguments - in a world of 7 billion people there are *always* cases where the best overall solution is the wrong answer in the particular case. To me the history of the episode argues that is very unilkely Hinch would want anyone from that team/history showing up at his doorstep today, let alone one of the supposed ring leaders, and I see no way Harris would not respect that. Some Crytpos other than Bitcoin (Etherium and co) are moving away from 'Proof of Work' transaction verification to 'Proof of Stake' which requires many orders of magnitude less computation (how many depends on the exact system). If crypto has a future as any kind of working currency it will be in systems that have moved off of 'proof of work'. When the cost of the kWhr to put a transaction on the ledger is many multiples of the value of the transaction - you don't have a functional medium of exchange, you just have an arcane investment scheme.

I would recommend that anyone who can go to school where they will meet a lot of different kind of people should do it. Monotone suburbia on one side, monotone black urban on the other, and FTM monotone rural are all bad for everyone. I had the good fortune to be a middle class kid at a high school with classmates that ran the spectrum from Palmer Woods to Highland Park. Looking back now I wouldn't have traded it for the world. At 15 yrs old that exposure actually is life changing.

As families get smaller and live social contacts keep decreasing in US society, I think socialization in school just gets more important. I suppose in a large family (which many home schoolers are) that's less a concern, but where does a kid learn to function in any kind of group setting if he's a home schooled only child? Nothing is impossible and nature may overcome any nurture, but it can't make it easier.

Right. Speaking of MS, they have some up with another new one that also really frosts me. At some point since the release of W11 they made Bitlocker the standard install. That's not that hard to turn off but bitlocker uses the little 16M hidden partition that MS used to install on any windows system drive. But now that bitlocker is standard, the windows disk manager will write the 16M hidden partition to every drive it thinks is empty - again, on start up of the disk manager and without ever asking. The problem is DM is too stupid to recognize some linux disk arrays and so corrupts them willy-nilly. So the work around is you can never start DM if you have a dual boot box, if you need to change the drive letter on a disk you have to use Diskpart from the command line. Unacceptable.

This just can not be stressed enough. A democracy depends on the public making decisions to the public good. If they either don't understand, mis-understand, or are allowed to be lied to without challenge about what is actually the public good, game over - everything collapses.
