  1. but the thing with football is that there is never one right answer. Somewhere out there is an offensive coordinator that will have the solutions to using the exact aggressiveness Glenn used this week against him. All teams match-up differently against each other. So it's always cat and mouse, respond and adapt, know and be ready for the fact they they are going to scheme against whatever you show you can do well.
  2. What complicates this is that like a lot of what Trump says, there is a certain kernel of - maybe not truth - but recognition of a problem that really does exist and is being ignored by the mainstream. I've heard people as anti-Trump as Timothy Snyder beginning to talk about the fact that we need to re-examine how we conceptual the internet and social media space and come to understand that the printing press metaphor is the wrong one, that we really need to come to understand it as a shared environment, which is subject to the same kinds of pollution and 'tragedy of the commons' problems as any physical environment. People can sense that there is something seriously wrong with the way social media works, but they can't see the way out because as a society, we - and particularly our legal and political elites - we are trapped in the wrong modes of thinking about what it is. This is exactly the kind of place where a fascist demagogue like Trump can offer easy, attractive, and completely wrong solutions.
  3. hard to judge about this from fan distance. The fact that he is a reformed binge drinker from more than a decade ago doesn't mean he's a tea-totaller today. Alcohol abuse patterns take a lot of different forms with wide differences in addiction susceptibility. Not everyone who abuses at some point ends up a deep addict.
  4. I can see them spending a fair chunk of change on pitching - lots of room there. I suspect position player signings are going to be limited - just because they have so many position players who are done at AAA they need to see play at the ML level. Even if you jettison Short, Ibanez, Baddoo, and McKinstry, Maton, (and I think dumping Short is doubtful) you're still looking at call ups for Keith, Perez, Malloy, Bigbie, Kriedler and Jung. So that's 5 spots opened and 6 possible refills before you sign anyone from the outside. So granted - they aren't going to call up 5 rooks at the same time, but three on the team at a point next season is reasonable, so that leaves room to sign roughly 2 solid everyday position players for before you start creating log jams. So I'm at least hoping that this season they shift from signing quantity (Maton/Vierling/McKinstry/Maton/Ibanez last season) to signing quality - maybe only one or two guys but bona fide ML players. Or we'll see the standard fallback to fishing for rehabbers to flip. Kelly will probably be gone as well but that will be a catcher for catcher replacement.
  5. That would have been a much shorter outing against any 700 run offense.
  6. I think McKinstry should head out early to work on his off-season golf game.
  7. Kyvv advising Ukrainian citizens to get out of Crimea. I'm sure that's part pysops, but it could also mean an attempt to take down the Kerch bridge is imminent. It's the inevitable step.
  8. typical example of a pol accidentally telling the truth.
  9. I don't mistake Ryan Day for the 2nd coming of Vince Lombardi, but he handed Freeman his rear last last night on the last drive.
  10. also true. They also let OSU beat them to the line and get a play off before they could set their D a couple times in that last drive.
  11. ND secondary created a lot of that luck...
  12. Didn't like the decision to only rush 3 after the penalty and it came back to bite ND
  13. I don't think saving the TO was worth giving up 5 yrs there.
  14. I don't know if Schiano's money was on the spread today, but only his repeated decisions to pass on taking points kept this game from being a lot closer on the scoreboard. He can fairly argue that close was pointless, he was playing for broke as it was the only route to a win and maybe he'd be right. But still, I think most coaches would rather keep the game as close as they can and hope for some kind of lucky break when up a against a superior team. I thought his decision to pass up the FG when it would have made it a one score game and JJ had tossed 3 picks a week earlier was indefensible from any perspective. He deserved for that call to turn into the nail in his team's coffin.
  15. LOL - shoulder issues would almost be a welcome respite from the current elbow wastage rate.....🤷‍♂️
  16. If the D Line doesn't pick up the pressure they are still at pretty serious risk of getting torched by a team with strong passing game. The guys in the both kept talking about 'best front 7'. I don't see it. Guys making great individual plays - sure. The line being consistently stout, not so much.
  17. Meadows at least getting on base with a good walk rate the last few games, something to be a little optimistic about. At least better than seeing guys going down the tubes late in the season which is what you see with a lot of prospects that flash early, then fade once they are scouted, never to be seen again.
  18. Pac 10 - the 'fear the walking dead' conference.
  19. this is a truly terrible offense. We tend not to notice as much as we should because our pitching keeps us in a lot of games that we have no business being in at all so how bad the runs scoring is by league standards isn't so striking.
  20. tough series for Tork. Looking for #30 too much probably. He did go to right earlier in this game, but should have been looking for that more.
  21. The rule changes have definitely shortened the games. There is a lot less come from behind time now, so don't get behind.
