  1. nothing - if you can persuade ownership to expand rosters enough to platoon more than a couple of positions. wait - take back the 'nothing', because you also leave yourself in a position be neutered by the 2nd pitching change.
  2. yeah - relegate a 24 yr old hitter to platoon duty and you've guaranteed a self-fulfilling but unnecessary prophecy.
  3. real 3-d chess players never let you know that's what they're playing.
  4. Just let Baddoo play everyday and/or let Rogers back on the field and you don't need to play anyone else in Vierling's place.
  5. Yeah - no way this isn't a big deal for a pitcher. We'll see him again in August - maybe. And it's another odd connective tissue injury, which seem to be an epidemic in sports recently - esp basketball. I know we are supposed to believe all is well because so much testing is going on, but the other possible contributor to otherwise weird connective tissue injuries are PEDs.
  6. The spirit of John Beilein finds a place in the NBA without him....
  7. yes. Anytime you can keep this failed SCOTUS on the sidelines is a much better option. People don't realize the cost of voters always being so much in love with the next new thing that we keep electing neophytes to the presidency. That has include Clinton, Bush II, Obama, and Trump. So now that we actually have the 1st guy that's been around the block enough times to have a decent idea how to do the job since GHWB, everybody keeps acting so amazed when he pulls another rabbit out the hat. Regardless of whether you are a fan on policy or not, the fact is it makes a difference when you have a guy in the job who isn't trying to figure out the job as he goes along.
  8. fair point, although I can believe someone who had dealt with Chicago might hold out hope that Det would be a lot easier to get in out of than there. I just remember that during a stretch where I was doing a lot of job traveling that in the end, you are either home or you are not, in an era of air travel and electronic communication - distance - at least within the four time zones of the continental US - is pretty immaterial. The physical distance between A and B doesn't add much of anything to the psychological distance and is only even a minor part of the effort to travel between them, it's all the other stuff.
  9. Opposition explains part of that. Didn't hurt that two of the starts he won on the road came against Stl & Wsn while he got hammered at home in starts against Baltimore Tx, and Seattle. there is also this: Inning| OPS 1st: 514 2nd: 688 3rd: 506 4th: 834 5th: 739 6th: 1.386
  10. Ibanez has K'd 9 times in those lat 40 PA, which it pretty normal, and his BaBIP over that 40 AB is 0.032. He may be having a soul shattering experience, but it's still mostly bad luck. It would help if he would walk a little.
  11. lot of possibilities, most of which may all be true at the same time. Heck, he may have discovered that playing for a team geographically close actually made zero difference in how often he could actually 'get home' during a baseball season so that having achieved that end, realized it didn't really matter.
  12. UAV's hitting Moscow today. Odds seems about even whether they were launched by Ukraine or Putin.
  13. yup, letting Boyd start the 7th didn't save the BP a single pitce because he didn't get anyone out, which is often the way it goes in that situation. Of course OTOH, when you get shut out post mortems on pitching management decisions are moot.
  14. It may have had as much to do with the opportunity to close as well. The BP in Ari was wide open coming into this season, and Chafin has been able to at least share the closers role. In Det he had been behind Soto last season and could see Lange as the favorite son this season and maybe figured Ariz was a much better shot to build closer credentials toward a bigger 2024 payday. That's not anybody's failure, (and it's not some knock on Detroit as a city to play in either) it's a measure of organization's BP strength if the guy saw a better shot at the closer's role somewhere else.
  15. this. As inconceivable as it may be, our Tigers have the most road wins and the most wins against winning teams in our division.
  16. If they want him to get a lot of experince at 3rd, Toledo would be the place thought. That pitching staff is giving up a LOT of contact....🙄
  17. I'll still be surprised if they don't sag back again a bit over the next couple of weeks, Wentz, Faedo and Boyd are going to remain unpredictable at best. They just have to keep in striking distance though because the pitching help is in the pipeline.
  18. A baseball game is pretty multivariate, but you can take right back to the way they chased Cease - it meant that we had our BP ace available for the 10th and the Sox had already spent theirs.
  19. and a 90 run differential between us and Mn. All old Pythogaras can do is contemplate how acute the Tigers have been.
  20. Riley's catch even huger with them having come back to win.
  21. That's the kind of AB I don't like to see from Torkelson. Takes a thigh high FB he could have ripped, takes a hanging breaking ball nearly middle middle that could have been pasted, then swings at a ball and gets himself out. Don't take strikes you can hit - you might not get another. You can say that out was about swinging out of the zone, I'd say it was as much about not swinging in the zone.
