  1. HaHa. And Chris Licht trying to turn CNN into FOX just when Murdoch's deciding to start moving to something else. Of course we will have to see what.
  2. Of course for a ML baseball player, you could be slowed by an amount that was imperceptible to you or anyone else in 100% of ordinary life and it could still destroy you as an MLB hitter.
  3. LOL - I had no idea it was a day game - glad I missed it I think. One the bright side - If Eduardo is going to have an off day it might as well be when they get one hit. 🤷‍♂️
  4. Beck has a byline about Flores on the Tigers site today reporting that Flores had lost about 4 mph off his fastball earlier this year and they were tyring to figure out why. He's gotten some of it back but is still a couple of mph short of his 'normal.' I don't think that is that unusual for a young pitcher. Hopefully his finds his mechanics and gets back on the track he was on previously.
  5. Maybe Madden? I wouldn't give up all on Flores yet - but it's sure nothing like it was a couple of years ago when Manning, Mize, Skubal and Faedo were all on their way up.
  6. Hinch is channeling the ghost of Sparky Anderson. Sparky always seems to give guys off when they were in the middle of hot streak. I think he had a theory about it but of course it wouldn't make any sense to anyone else even when he explained it. Seriously - it's a LH pitcher. I don't know if I like the strategy though. Until recently Riley hasn't shown much platoon split - but if you don't let him face LHP, a platoon split will become a self-fullfilled prophecy.
  7. Yeah - compare to Cricket bowlers - who do mess up their shoulders but not their UCLs.
  8. and the other possibility - which would 'absolve' Tampa, and Avila too for that matter, would be if what has happened to Ausin is COVID related. Again - we don't know the details of his life history, but if this is something that he had no previous history with, some form of long COVID is as reasonable a speculative trigger as anything. IIRC he did have a pretty bad case didn't he?
  9. yeah - Lakeland is bad. Dingler still has the team in HR from a rehab assignment.
  10. When we lived in MN the suburb dividing line was our back fence. They had the newer (and mostly bigger) houses but our school district was one of the top in the state. Made for amusing real estate marketing.
  11. Agree 100% - I don't think they make the trade if Riley is healthy. Of course looking back we can say with some evidence that Riley wasn't going to do much in his first few hundred AB so that pinning hopes on him last year would have been a mistake anyway and could have led to some worse decision later in the season if the pressure had not been removed by them falling completely out of contention. Oddly - in the long run it looks like it's going to turn out better that they were able to give a not very productive Riley (and probably Torkelson as well) full time AB in the 2nd half last yr.
  12. Certainly the surprise it not what Paredes' value is - I don't think too many people doubted there was a decent hit tool there, the questions for Paredes had been whether he was going to outgrow the quickness he needed as an IF and whether his power would develop but there was always a decent probability for him. The crazy thing that has come out of the blue is Meadows. Unless Tampa was hiding something how could anybody have predicted what has happened to him when deciding to trade for him? It's just one of those weird outliers - basically our guy got run over by the beer truck. Where we are now doesn't really have much to do with the trade.
  13. Speaking of 40 yr old pitchers, Anibal announced his retirement. He pitched 19 years with an arm that should have fallen off before he even got to the Tigers.
  14. Kumar Rocker blew his UCL. About as predictable as the Sun rising in the East..... https://www.mlb.com/news/kumar-rocker-rangers-tommy-john-surgery
  15. Just think, if ERod had pitched this way all last season Al Avila might still have his job.
  16. We're not waiting for power from Tork, just a little adjustment in elevation - he already hits the ball plenty hard enough to put in the seats. But I don't want to be too impatient. Hitters develop. He's just come off a pretty disappointing season. Let him get his on-base tools working consistently. Once he's a more comfortable and experienced hitter that little additional lift will probably come naturally as his timing gets better. The one thing I don't want anyone to do is mess with his swing - it's a thing of beauty as it is.
  17. well, he had 1178 in Japan before coming to the US. If he'd had half that many playing those years in the US he'd still be at ~3700 - so he could easily have been challenging for 4k.
  18. Lorenzen looking like the steal of the offseason. 5 hits for Torkelson and Greene. 2:14 game time.
  19. The only one I ever remember is Cesar Gutierrez had a 7 for 7 in 12 innings in 1970, which was just about a whole season's offense for him!
  20. Riley has pushed his BA over his last 120 AB over 300. Getting close to being more than just a hot streak by a mediocre hitter. Has to be the best stretch of his career.
  21. Ortiz has to realize who he has playing 1b also. Carlos Santana is not exactly Mark Teixeira over there. If you aren't sure of your throw, don't make it to Santana.
  22. My neighbor has a tough lawn, uses an EGO on it. As long as he doesn’t let it go too long it seems to do fine. It’s what I would get if I were in the market, but I gave up cutting my own as my allergies to it have gotten worse. Sometimes a decision is nothing to sneeze at….😁
  23. the way he is trying to outrun the weakness at his flanks you'd *almost* think he was trying to get himself and his people surrounded and cut off, so he can part ways with Russia altogether/switch sides or at least negotiate his own safe passage to Brunei or the like.
