  1. right - it was his setup (or lack of it) that did him in. As any OF duffer knows, there is an almost irresistable tendency to want to just glide over and meet the ball at the spot instead of getting to the spot and waiting for it (if you can of course) or at least getting there with enough buffer to leave yourself options, but the latter is what you have to force yourself to do in a cases where things might get tricky at the end - like at the wall. And it's doubly hard if you think you're going to have to jump because you can't get there too soon and give up your momentum either. That's why when a player gets it all right it's a major league play!
  2. Lots of flying knees, gloves and elbows in that delivery. Good distraction value if nothing else.
  3. maybe, but seems to defy logic. The map of Yankee stadium is 399 in Left going out to 409 in CF and as you note the wall is 8 ft so I'm left suspicious of their ballistics. 🚀
  4. Old yankee stadium maybe? The new Yankee park isn't close to 428 anywhere.
  5. But WAR is supposed to be designe to be 'team independent' isn't it? I mean in the sense that it's supposed to isolate individual performance - so I would assume that it would not distinguish between your 3 war in two months vs 1 WAR in 6 month players. But I would suppose it is exactly in the interaction with the rest of your team mates - RBI and Runs scored, where the streaky player costs his team.
  6. LOL - Foley threw him a FB that nearly took his glove off.
  7. I think Manning is good enough to be a useful starter -- but health seems to be even more of question mark with him than most pitchers.
  8. sure, but he can block once he has the ball and if you hit him high then I believe it's a violation - I think....
  9. Got him out before he could lose the game. Fair enough. Lets see if someone in this BP can erase a runner.
  10. Manning amped up to finish. 96 on the FB there --- but he lost him.
  11. I guess he gets away with it because he hits some of the terrible pitches he chases.
  12. I suppose the risk under the current rule is If you don't slide and run into the catcher they're going to call you out.
  13. right in the corner of the sign, about a ball's width below the yellow line.
  14. yeah - hate to say it but Kreidler is looking overmatched so far.
  15. Recovery after getting behind and giving up the dinger was pretty good.
  16. Obtained from the Didgers for ....Josh Fields. Who knew you can find a top player without tanking for a draft pick?
  17. it was a good throw, but pretty short - actually from that distance it takes good control not to airmail it.
  18. Vierling maybe makes it if he slides a little later - he lost a lot of speed on that last 5 feet.
