  1. Flexor rehab apparently is pretty variable - might be no firm date for Skubal.
  2. I didn't mean them in any particular order, but I thought Brieske pitched pretty well in his last month of starts. Of course he may not stay healthy either.....
  3. Jeez, I left a sharpened hatchet under the seat (thus concealed) of my car for years because that was the only way I remembered to take it camping.....
  4. A^2 news reports it stemmed from a traffic stop. Is there going to be a DWB overlay to this?
  5. forgetting for a minute that this is a football player and a high profile team, if this is a procedural carry or licensing violation you'd might be hard pressed to find a Michigan jury if you went to trial where some of the members hadn't done the same thing at least once..... The Academic community and the city of A^2 and probably the whole NCAA is mostly firmly planted in the anti-gun left, but out there in the rest of the world and even much of the wider Washtenaw county, the 2A rules. And of course we know Harbaugh's politics.
  6. He may be pitching in relief for us. My stab at the most likely top 5 starters going into ST would be ERod, Brieske, Manning, Turnbull and Wentz.
  7. But on a scale from zero to Willie Peralta, Matt's an 11.
  8. Read in full, Petzold implies that Garko has been a driver in revamping hitting development org wide. I don't think it necessarily reflects on the org that guys work with outside instructors in the off season - it is afterall *off-season*. The question is can the org's people then build constructively on a player's off-season work or do they push him back to the same approaches they favor but he may have been failing with? And of course there is no guarantee it doesn't work the other way. remember last year Skubal came to ST with a split-finger that his outside coaching had him all charged up about - turned out to have been a bad idea and the Tigers had to bring him back more to where he had been.
  9. In his limited time back last season it appeared he had his normal FB velo back. If that means his arm is fully healthy then we can probably expect Matt's stuff plays OK mid/back of rotation. Nothing wrong with that.
  10. Vrana has been out long enough now that he's going to need at least a couple of weeks more once he's cleared just to get back to playing condition.
  11. Parker Meadows and hitting the fastball had been a question on the off season thread, Petzold has a report on Parker's efforts to fix that over the last year. https://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2022/11/30/detroit-tigers-parker-meadows-put-myself-back-on-the-map/69682760007/ some highlights: .
  12. LOL - now I see it. I thought you meant something about the scheduling and couldn't come up with anything! D'OH!
  13. we are conditioned to assume it's impossible to find players to upgrade positions of need other than with huge/unlikely FA signings. That conditioning is colliding with Harris' confidence he can do better.
  14. still waiting to get something like a productinve night from Bertuzzi.
  15. HaHa - And I though this year was going to be the last....
  16. yeah - the situation has changed dramatically since Kaline and Mays' day. Guys were not on huge long term deals and teams were more than willing to cut bait with guys whose performance had dropped regardless of who they were. You got pretty much one year to prove you were done and you were out. I'm pretty certain that Miguel would not have have been playing in the majors for the last two years or so under the contract arrangements that existed years ago. When you think about it puts more luster on the records of the old timers who had to get to those counting statss without benefit of being able to hang on to roster spots because of their team's contract liability to them.
  17. One theory is that Americans have lost so many of the identity anchors they used to have (social and service clubs, stable jobs, churches, neighborhoods, ethnic subcultures) that political tribalism has begun to fill those gaps in their lives and the corollary to that is that the purpose of political discourse shifts away from dialect debate that reaches for consensus and solution, to where it is mostly directed at tribal membership declaration and maintenance, where the point is no longer to engage with contrary views at all.
  18. Not the best comparison. Willie had a bad last year in '73 but as near to that as '71 he carried a 900 OPS and led the league in walks and OBP. '72 was a relative down year - OPS+ of 'only' 131. Miguel has only been OPS+ positive once in the last 4 season and then just barely.
  19. You know the type -- he's waiting for it to be worth something. Sad one: There is a guy about 2 blocks from me that has had a derelick red '56(I think) Caddy 2dr hardtop sitting uncovered, rotted rubber, one window down, slowly disssolving on his driveway for at least 10 yrs. 😥
  20. and yet even for all that, a big chunk of those who did die did it in the name of 'freedom' either because they wouldn't follow the available public health recommendations or later because they became vaccine naysayers. I don't know what you do with a society when you are at the 'can lead a horse to water but can't make him drink' stage."
