  1. Maybe Yzerman will give Chris a pointer or two on tthe tigers out of sympathy. They’ve known each other a long time.
  2. I suggest they hook him up with Cabrera and try to get them to start some kind of happy charity so both will be too busy to want to play anymore baseball. At least the Padres and Tigers could then feel better about where their money is going, because for sure, it is gone.
  3. LOL, "If pitcher who does't have good arm had a good arm, he'd be a pitcher." Brilliant! OK, sure, some guys find an mph or two with some bio-mech coaching, but is sounds like Anglin needs more like 5. Still "if Anglin can throw harder he’ll become an interesting prospect." is almost a comic line.
  4. according to a Reuters story, Greg Norman says Tiger was offered "$700-800M" to join the Saudi tour and refused. FWIW, it is Greg Norman talking here.... https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/woods-rejected-700-800-million-liv-offer-says-norman-2022-08-02/
  5. ???? The probabilities across multiple years would sum by roughly a binomial dist. If you have a 1/12 chance of winning and go to the playoffs 10 times, your odds of winning at least one are ~60%. Binomial is probably not the best approx for that low a single event probability, but that should be in the ballpark. https://stattrek.com/online-calculator/binomial Lee can probably generate a better approx.
  6. Yup. You get the feeling the motion is mostly in the right direction but that everything has happened more slowly than it should have.
  7. If it had been meant as parody, I don't know how you would write it any different. 🤔
  8. I guess Melania must have taken the pic....
  9. I take a very sharp chef's knife and shave it as thin as I can (which is pretty much the same start), but then I dice up the slices as fine as possible. I have no idea if it actually makes any difference in the final dish or not, but my idea is to try to keep the oil in the pieces and get the pieces small instead of busting up the cell structure and having the liquid expressed out like a press does. It's just the way I like to do it. The SO does the lion's share of the actual cooking, but I get drafted for most of the prep!
  10. I just looked up to see what the comparison was between the number of Vietnamese we took with us when that ended and the number of Afghans. Wiki says we evac'ed 140K Vietnamese in '75. WSJ this Jan claimed we've resettled 76,000 from Afghanistan (USDOS site says funding was authorized for up to 95000) , which is more than I would have guessed. But still, given that Vietnam's population then was about the same as Afg's now, that's a lower % of the total population and given that we were in Afg a lot longer it also argues we did less. And it's not like with that number we had covered ourselves in glory getting out of 'Nam.
  11. Nats trying to pass the Tigers for as the poster child team for boom and bust cycling.
  12. Josh Bell is no slouch either.. Susana is dicing up rookie ball hitters. Hassell looks like a nice prospect. Abrams just made the show this year. Can't find James Wood in BR.
  13. I could see Vest or Lange being thrown in. Chafin make the most sense but as has already been covered, the option/live in the midwest thing complicates moving him. I know it's a 180 reversal for me, but right now I think moving Jimenez could be selling low. There is just enough chance what he is doing now is real and because of his spotty history I don't think we would get that much for him so this is one where the upside of a trade has higher odds of some return, the potential downside, while not that likely, is still big enough I'd stand pat.
  14. Jimenez has a history that's enough to make you happy to have him become someone else's problem going forward. But if you had just dropped he and Soto in from Mars this season, you'd wonder why Joe wasn't closing. This is the kind of call that makes or breaks team building - which one of these guys is more likely to end up worthless in a season or two and which might be your all-star. Stat's will hardly help you here because the big question with Jimenez is which of many different pitchers he has been statistically is the one he will be in the future, the one who dominates or the the one who can't find the plate? Likewise with Soto - who is so dependent on his velo because the slider comes and goes. He may show up next ST and the triple digits may be gone. Jimenez' walk rate is probably too low to sustain, but where does he level out after seasons at 6.9 and 1.8? Soto lives so close to the edge it always feels like he might self-destruct permanently at any time.
  15. If it too big for where a developer wants to put it, Taylor is all in for it. His dream seems to be to turn a town with no road or transportation net into Manhattan.
  16. I guess I would call that a proximate cause. Whether it rises to the level of reason is another matter. 🙄
  17. Petzold tweets that Fetter had recruited Anglin when he was at UM.
  18. Anyone seen any reporting on how Vlad's litany of atrocities is playing in China? Is China allowing any coverage, is any of what they are allowing honest? Is Xi going doubling down with Vladdy or maybe looking for some distance from being his BFF?
  19. Cameron and Carpenter are the only OFs listed on the Hen's roster as of now - well Robson is still listed but seems to be long gone.
  20. well they got Josh Hader's hair anyway.
  21. Do I hear Heavenly Choirs singing? ..no, just a little tinnitus.
  22. If there were some way it was actually conceivable to build build a 90+ win team and then tweak it in any such manner that would materially change its probability of winning the WS it wouldn't be, but there isn't.
