  1. yup, just like every other low virulence circulation virus that entered circulation over the millenia. The people who are uniquely susceptible were in trouble, but the larger population develops immunity from exposure, and in the modern case we have vaccines to accelerate that process by orders of magnitude, plus Paxlovid to help the people whose immunity doesn't respond as well. I was talking to an acquaintance with family in China, the government there still not ready to concede that they simply have to learn to live with it.
  2. why isn't he out for not being on the outside of the base line?
  3. Great Lakes states have a compact and treaty with Canada all to prevent diversion of GL water out of the basin. I believe the Chicago river is the only bexception and they argue about how much water can go there.
  4. victor also usually has his head in the game, which has always been questionable with Willi, though I admit he has been better about brain freezes lately.
  5. well you hope that in a least few cases the coach can see something wrong in the hitters approach, some bad physical habit they've developed that he can help the player break to get back to where he was. Of course that is not always the reason why a player slumps, but you'd think with half a dozen guys slumping the odds are your HC would have been able to have been some help to one of them....
  6. Gerrit Cole got hammered a couple of days ago, you never know.
  7. yes - they are vets and I don't think individual instruction is going to matter much, but that's not all the hitting coach is responsible for. What kind of BP are they doing? Doing any live off the mound? Machine drills? How is the pitching scouting being presented and what kind of recommendations are being made? Are they pushing guys to review old video? Making sure old video is available? They may already be doing all this stuff but the point is that there is stuff a pitching coach is responsible for that is going to help even vets.
  8. Bart, Kelenic, Rutchsman aren't even in Torks draft class, they have all been in their systems longer. The Covid year scrambled things up but Tork is still at the majors really fast. That said, some days he looks fine. Other days he looks caught in between, waiting just a hair too long to commit to swinging at the FB. Could be he needs to stop worrying about his K rate to actually control it better. Easier said than done of course.
  9. Yeah - the options are poor. Agree Miguel does not look like he is an any kind of shape to play any 1b now! If Kreidler were OK or Clemens was showing signs his bat might play, that would free Harold to go to 1st, but I think he is about your only choice. Don't really want to see Schoop there - agreed that costs too much D at both 1st and 2nd. One other side, I don't think they care enough about Lester that having Tork take his AB at Toledo would be a consideration.
  10. Curious - he is listed as on rehab from the Mudhens rather than assigned to the FCL. Hard to believe they think he would ready to be at AAA in 30 days! I guess maybe just where the roster spot is right now....Or maybe he is too old to be assigned there?
  11. Pacheco has been their Steady Eddie. Looks like he's had only one dry spell of about 0/15 but conversely he has only one game >2 hits.
  12. Oh - I know that, but my point is that that isn't how it usually works with management. We know their team's performance wasn't Madden or Girardi's fault either, but in the real world that not how the cookie usually gets crumbled.
  13. The thing with MiLB hitters is that you can look at all their results and metrics and even if they are good maybe still make predictions about which guys that are doing well in the minors still don't have the ability for majors (e.g. Carpenter). But it doesn't go the other way. A guy can look perfect in the minors and still hit a wall against the quality of MLB pitching he can't get over. Bottom line, you never really know what level a hitter is going to top out at.
  14. I don't know anything about Coolbaugh as a coach, but he has come magic kind of aura around him politically because just in terms of the normal dynamics of team accountability, we have a hitting coach presiding over a bunch of hitters performing at once in a century poor levels and the only thing you get when Coolbaugh's name comes up is a shrug. Any number of Tiger hitting coaches as recently as Lloyd have been regularly roasted over teams that performed much closer to their expected norms than this one.
  15. one player at Lakeland with 100AB and >800 OPS, Carlos Mendoza three players at WM four players at Erie, but one is 26, one is 27 and one no-one believes can level up ONE at Toledo, a 35 yr old journeyman catcher. as of today, that is it.
  16. and Perez 2/3 3B for Madden. Did anyone see word about Colt Keith?
  17. "J"obe of course. I type poorly enough on a keyboard. I'm hopeless on a phone..
  18. I thought I heard it was Casey's camp that was resisting the idea of surgery since the diagnosis wasn't a definitive rupture but it was just radio chatter so it might have been off base.
  19. Think of all the energy the Blue Jays are wasting tonight.
