  1. They've been pitching well, not quite good enough given the low run support, but so far the Tigers runs against are fine - better than average for the AL. Hitting will always be more up and down than pitching and D, so maybe the bats will regress to mean. Of course that also assumes Mize and/or Manning are not out too long.
  2. fair point. It's not as obvious what would be subject to that kind of attack at the research institute, it's not as obvious anyway as a facility with a large hackable distributed instrument control system like a chem plant. But that is one of Russia's disadvantages in this war - There are many Ukrainians with deep personal knowledge of things within Russia that has good intelligence value so there may be a lot of non-obvious vulnerabilities the Ukrainians will be able to exploit. OTOH, Ukraine has already been hardening their assets against Russian intelligence for years.
  3. "doesn't skate as well as Rusmussen"? That's not good to hear. Although in fairness, I would say it's not Ras' skating to much per se as his lack of strength on his skates that is the issue. He can get there but he's too easy to knock of the puck once he does.
  4. What's most fascinating to me about the evolution of basketball with the 3pt shot is how long it has taken to happen. It's an example that what people believe to be true without ever having any real evidence, is more powerful than reality. The NBA could(should?) have been playing this game within 10 yrs of 1986 (the 1st generation of players with the rule) but the belief that players couldn't hit 40% from 23 feet, and esp that big men couldn't shoot from out there (Bill Laimbeer not-withstanding) kept young players from ever teaching themselves to do. I suppose the Euro big men with outside shots also helped to finally change perceptions in the league.
  5. Who knows? I would guess sabotage. Something like the Al Qaeda sleeper cell model? If you step back it seems reasonable to believe there are people in Russia who hate what is happening enough to act on that hatred.
  6. America, where democracy means we get to choose sides between idiot tinpot elected officials and scam artist corporate robber barons. ...Same as it ever was.
  7. correct. No reason at all the home crowd shouldn't feel free to boo the visiting manager for making a move to the advantage of his team.
  8. the next big thing should be UV-C lighting in public places. It can pretty much keep the air in large stagnant places sterile without giving the occupants melanoma - a helpful feature.
  9. Chafin pitched an inning tonight at Lakeland. We'll see if Manning misses more than one start. The rest are going to be awhile.
  10. (Lakeland) Faedo: 4IP, 1H, 2BB, 5K (WM) Dylan Smith: 4IP, 2H, 7K, 1ER (HR) (Tol) Wentz: 4.2IP, 2H, 1ER, 4BB, 3K EDIT: should add that Carlos Pena finished the Lakeland game with 4IP of no-hit, no walk ball with 7K
  11. It looked like someone that was probably Denise was there in one shot as well.
  12. Chafin with 1IP at Lakeland. 1H and 3 outs. At Toledo Hill was 1/3 and played CF. Progress.
  13. With Shea Patterson one would have expected even worse.....
  14. all you can hope for with a guy like Brieske is that he's a late bloomer and he's still getting better, so he's going to outpitch his projections. There was some discussion he's picked up up a couple mph for instance. 2 mph can be big difference if he can use it well. Still, do the math - they are now down 6 pitchers (Mize, Manning, Cisnero, Funk, R. Garcia, Chafin)? from where the season started? Under normal conditions you wouldn't say Brieske had exactly worked himself into "next man up" status yet.
  15. 156K in 137IP is low K by today's std.
  16. Two facilities in Moscow went up in flames today. Very Interesting...
  17. Boone was completely correct. But if you are at the ballpark and don't boo the opposing manager for that you should lose your ticket buying privileges. That's what you are there to do.
  18. Yeah, they were pretty desperate for a W
  19. Maybe the rest of the staff should dye their hair blue.
  20. Can I believe my eyes? A Tiger pitcher made a play in the field!
  21. Lange wanted no part of Judge - leaves a mess for Soto.
  22. this Yankee staff mostly works pretty fast. If that is Aaron Boone's doing, good for him.
  23. Kirk sounds decent - having a good day.
  24. Barnes *is* going to turn back into a pumpkin, but hopefully not today.
  25. Reyes - no drama on the fly ball. Pineda - great outing.
