  1. I think one problem is that there is limited solidarity on the players side because there is such a chasm between the large number of have not players and small number of have players - and the 'haves' seem to control the union. If I'm Eric Haase what do uncapped contracts like Max Scherzer just got do for me? The union spends all their energy fighting a cap, a stance which benefits only the top players and in fact hurts the rest because the more they pay Max (or we pay a SS) the higher the drive to have more players on the roster be held at the minimum. Little wonder to me the union doesn't have the solidarity to make substantive progress.
  2. True. And the development of the monoclonals was every bit as 'rushed' through the process as the vaccines were, and monoclonals probably have higher theoretical potential for serious side effects than the mRNA vaccines, though to be clear, in practice I have not heard of any associated with these COVID monoclonals.
  3. yup - in a democracy a society gets the government it deserves. There, in fact, is the most overused word in American marketing: "deserves." If you are an American you don't "deserve" jack, because you are doing a damn half-assed job on both your foreign and domestic responsibilities.
  4. It's the digital equivalent of a Potemkim village. Everything is fine here, move along....
  5. I'm sure a metal detector inside this home's front door and/or an armed neighbor borrowing a cup of sugar and this would never have happened. https://www.thedailybeast.com/florida-church-musician-william-broyles-guns-down-his-wife-of-30-years-and-their-two-kids-cops-say?ref=home
  6. Can't see how. And an additional problem for W Castro is that there may not be a whole lot of playing time for him at SS in Toledo either as Kreidler probably has a higher system priority now.
  7. So the question will be: Have the Tigers transitioned away from development mode where they are willing to play not their best roster, with guys at the MLB level as tryouts, to professional competition mode where the best players are on the field and they are actually competing to win as many games as they can starting from game one.
  8. Or Harold Castor and Schoop will be splitting 1st and 2nd. Paredes will have to hit to get to Det. He might, but he didn't do much in his shot in Det, though he did finish well right at the end in Toledo. So unless he tears up ST, I think they are going to want to see him prove something more extended in Toledo.
  9. I hope his salary is being docked and the Wings are donating it to a vaccination effort somewhere.
  10. Until the careful people like Archie and Tigerholic and Romad come to the conclusion that despite the care they take they are still part of the problem, things in the US won't change.
  11. I've always hated the shootout. But I have to admit I do hate them less since Jimmy Howard has retired.
  12. So Bertuzzi may not be their best player, but he is the player whose absence affects the way they play more than any other right now.
  13. Tork probably has a higher probability of making the team out of ST than Paredes. And Clemens is probably ahead of Paredes him on the 2B depth chart now. Isaac hasn't been able to get his bat straightened out at all since his Mexican league run last winter.
  14. yeah - and there is some subset of the population who could safely handle nuclear material in a home reactor as well, doesn't mean it still wouldn't a big mistake to allow it in a society.
  15. that was a really bad luck goal, but the way the Wings are lagging it was becoming inevitable. LOL - perfect post timing. 2-2
  16. IDK - was having a terrible winter. Well maybe that will be a good sign after having a good winter last year and not being able to hit anything once the season started.
  17. LOL - every which way and finally it went in.
  18. well, Cade had a great shooting night. 10/13 and 5/7, but only one trip to the line and only one assist - so one step forward and one step back. But this is the stat of the night. Pistons other than Cade were 4/28 from the 3 pt line. 14% How can a front office set out to build a basketball team and just forget that someone on the roster needs to be able to put the ball in the hole?
  19. salt of the earth.... article says the kid had made social media posts with the gun. Might explain the story that quoted one student having said he decided to stay home that day.
  20. looking like there isn't going to be any herd immunity gained against Delta. Better get your asz vaccinated because everyone is going to get it before it's done.
  21. what a goof ball hockey game. Goals called back, linesmen that can't run a faceoff, penalties up the wazoo. All that and nothing tallied.
