  1. anything is possible but I would put my money on the very top FAs like Correa and Seager and probably Scherzer, not being signed until after a CBA is in place.
  2. The other change was that in the reworked deal there is relatively little buyout money owed him if they terminate him.
  3. sportrac has them at $82M after Rodriguez. Say $25M for the SS and IDK - their arbitration awards might be what - $15M? That would be $122M. The league average last year was ~$128M IIRC. But considering they are going to have to (IMO) start locking up their young pitchers soon they will be well above whatever they spend this year pretty quickly.
  4. Yeah, unless they crash against Maryland, the 10 wins certainly saves Harbaugh's job - assuming he still wants it. I find his whole presentation very strange recently. And yes I mean more than how strange he normally was in the past.
  5. Certainly agree with this. You aren't going to pay someone big bucks to end up your BP swing man and he wouldn't be happy about it either! The 6th and/or 7th guy up has to be either be someone you can reasonably leave at AAA or the Bullpen.
  6. at the immediate moment of the shootings maybe, but what was he doing there in the 1st place if not attempting to project law enforcement as a civilian - which is the common working definition of a vigilante? Whether he was there as a vigilante and whether he killed someone in self defense (or not) are separate questions.
  7. Whether or not that was useful, what is your criteria for excluding Rittenhouse's activity from the common definition of 'vigilante'? i.e. "Self-appointed law enforcer"
  8. I can go either way on Boyd. He's not been any kind of world beater, but he's managed to be ERA+ positive in each of the last three real seasons pitching in front of a generally bad defensive team and until this surgery has been pretty healthy - plus he has a rep for working very hard at his conditioning, diet etc., so it's not like there is nothing to like there. '
  9. can't say I expected Stafford's RTG to be doubled in a game by Jimmy Garoppolo this season.
  10. McCosky is all in on Boyd. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2021/11/15/idle-thoughts-winning-offseason-guarantees-nothing-tigers-but-man-fun/8627321002/ I think his argument about being on top of his rehab makes sense, but I'm still skeptical. It may depend on what's left in that kitty once they sign a SS.
  11. BTW, we will now have 3 pitchers named Rodriguez on the 40.
  12. Chrome has missed connecting a couple times today, but I've had to clear the cache and create new bookmarks in Safari because it seemed to be stuck hard on a dead link.
  13. yeah - I've noticed that after games as well. I've assumed it was the casino crowd getting more hard core.
  14. Madden was supposed to be a guy who could be fast-tracked. We'll see.
  15. yeah - unless Turnbull is one of the unlucky ones with a less than successful TJ he is a lock to be back in the rotation. But I think the possibility of Boyd being back are shrinking.
  16. A second line like McCarty, Maltby and Drapes would be to die for for the current Wings. They are not a particularly gifted forechecking team once you get past Bertuzzi. An area where the loss of Glendenning hasn't been made up.
  17. I'm really curious about whether Livers can make in the NBA. He always struck me as one of those players that had more impact than his numbers in College, and I suppose that usually doesn't translate well.
  18. I do. I think they have picked a number and when they get to it they are done. But we won't know what it was until they spend it.
  19. I guess he wouldn't be 1st big time scorer at lower levels to find out his skillset doesn't get the puck in the net in the NHL. If he's not going to find his scoring touch though. I'd still hope he could at least turn himself into a Draper type player. One of the early games this season I remember the Wings were on a PP and they put Zadina slot right and must have fed him a dozen passes and I'm not sure if between fanning on the puck and missing the net he managed one shot on goal. Pretty frustrating sequence for a guy who was billed as a shooter and scorer.
  20. IDK - not so much. He's a left hand hitting catcher. Even if all goes perfectly well with Jake (or Dingler) having a L/R catching combo is an ideal situation. Nobody gets overworked and since Jake and/or Dingler aren't too expensive it may not bother them to spend a little on Barnhardt's side of the platoon.
  21. Honestly, I don't think they want to know, because once they know, they will have to do something, and it will be something they don't want or don't know how to do. ( e.g prevent guys from throwing so many breaking balls)
  22. this is the thing for me as well. At UM, these kids have already had their tickets out punched. All the energy and resource spent making them feel comfy may be nice but is doing nothing for all the kids down at W. Chicago and Meyers whose role models are the local bangers.
  23. Ha!. But you know they can make $50M/yr easily just with attendance increases if they put a playoff contenting team on the field. A good Tiger team should draw 1,500,000 more fans in '22 than in '21. If you figure the take per fan is in the $50 dollar range that's actually $75Million.
  24. that's fair - I guess the counter argue is that it's somewhat impossible to know if you've signed the wrong player because what does in most players on long deals is injury and those are unpredictable. We probably would have had no complaints even about Cabrera's contract if he had had Nelson Cruz's health and he had been chasing his 600th HR this year instead. So maybe it's just safe to assume a certain percentage of your long term deals will go South no matter who you sign, and that becomes an argument for at least limiting your exposure with them. Or try offering a premium for taking fewer years - but I don't know how many players that would temp.
