  1. LeCarre was pleased enough to have been catapulted to literary stardom by TSTCIFTC, but with the heroic Richard Burton movie and all, in the end he was not pleased that his cynicism about the spy world was being lost, so his next novel was a total downer called "the Looking Glass War." Needless to say 60's Hollywood was less interested! Of course the Brits did their own completely forgettable film which wasted a rather promising cast.
  2. I spent most of my working life in hazardous environments. Safety is culture, and the enforcement of the culture depends completely on the immediate local management. In the end the people closest to the accident will take the fall for it, but a movie set is the director's world and the ultimate and absolute responsibility is his for allowing a hazard tolerant culture to live on his sets.
  3. "Deserve" has little to do with whether he keeps his job. The question is does Michigan fan buy out the stadium in '22 based on 10-2? I would guess...probably yes. That's all Harbaugh needs. (and it doesn't hurt UM football marketing that the Lions are terrible either!)
  4. Slick - but isn't it illegal to be in motion toward the LOS before the snap?
  5. indeed, neither of these teams has top 10 talent or exection. So in the end it comes down to the fact that my head says Tucker has shown actual coaching competence in turning MSU around, while despite a lot of new staff, the guy in charge in A^2 is still Harbaugh and Harbaugh is still a coach whose teams find ways to lose games that matter.
  6. in the overall universe of things Morton has already suffered, a fractured Fibula is small potatoes. 😉 If there are no complications he should be good to go - for the 'stros - in 4mo.
  7. I had close to no reaction. Pretty minor soreness in the arm the 1st night, but that was actually more than I had for either of the 1st two so go figure.
  8. The Caps aren't the youngest team in the league anymore so maybe the Wings had a bit of a team speed advantage in general. Raymond maybe not so much with the straight line speed of an Athanasiou, but he has some quickness to go with what speed he has to where he had been able to elude defenders.
  9. I think that '89 draft still stands alone as the only draft where 4 of the 1st 5 picks are all in the HOF. And the one miss was Tony Mandarich - LOL.
  10. have to guess he's trying to get a settlement number on the interest. In the absence of a criminal charge and penalties, 200K interest on 1million in 4 yrs at recent interest rates is borderline profiteering by the state.
  11. watching the replay of the OT, maybe 15 seconds before goal, Larkin and Seider are along the right side boards in the Caps end and the puck is getting away, Seider - going south, bats the knee high puck out of the air back north over to Larkin, who gains possession and reverses the puck back to center ice which sets up the scoring rush. Just a tiny play, but an example of great vision, reflex, touch, and split second decision making.
  12. Wings got their 9th point in their 16th game last season. In their 7th this season.
  13. Snitker finally pulls Fried. I guess he decided he has his win on the road and he wants to save his pitching more than he wanted to bet on a comeback.
  14. I wonder how much Joe Buck costs Fox on their Baseball ratings? Can't tell you exactly why but I find the team with Ron Darling is just so much better to listen to.
  15. The random inputs are restless tonight.
  16. Waiting for Seider to get a little more aggressive with his shot on the PP. What is it that Hinch says about guys? Slow heart rate? Seider never seems to look rattled.
  17. Bad MI numbers today - back up to almost 4K for Mon/Tues
  18. yup - I hope Harbaugh is recruiting a good QB hard this year because one way or the other one of McNamara or McCarthy is gone next season and you don't want to be left with no backup. That is apparently how it's going to be from now on. Win the job or move on, win and then lose the job, move on.
  19. I think you also have to assume that that board (and/or the rest of the family) would probably have taken a dim view of him not being 100% focused on being COB at FoMoCO. WCFJr had said more than once, both before and after WCFSr passed, that the company was always his primary interest. Whether he says that out of conviction or convenience, who knows? And if you really want to try and speculate about what kind of undercurrents there might be in the family - consider that WCF Sr was frozen out of an active role in managing Ford. Maybe Mom sees her own son as a bit of turncoat to his father (and her) in taking the role her husband was denied (which of course also denied her the peak social status that Henry II's wives had). That's the kind of dynamic where Mom might be more the holder of grudges than Sr himself, who was happy enough to have Jr working with him some on the Lions in his later years.
  20. WCFJr is probably the only one in the family that serious experience in any kind of organizational setting and even in his case that record is checkered. He's been behind some good hires and some not so good ones at FoMoCo. But with the Lions he saw his initial support of Millen blow up in his face and that was apparently enough for him to decide to bail when given the chance. Or who knows, maybe Mom pushed him out!
  21. this would be a great concept. Juries of thieves only for thieves, murderers only for murderers. - Yeah, let's go with this!
  22. I'm about to start on "the Coddling of the American Mind" I put it on my Kindle so no-one on Campus will catch me carrying it around......🙄
  23. I thought you built a team by accumulated good players until you had more good players than the other teams you have to play. With Cade they are at player one, and even that remains a maybe.
  24. Yeah - just missed the trade deadline....
  25. Braves take the 1st game but at high cost - Morton is out of the series.
