Wings in white at home era.

I"m not sure "realistically compete for a WS" would be how I would capture it. I think you 'realistically' get good enough to be a consistent 95 game team that pretty much guarantees you get into the playoffs without needing luck or other teams to cooperate, but as has been proved time and time again, if all you do manage to do is luck into the playoff at a barely over 500 pace, you still have a perfectly 'realistic' chance to win a WS.

LOL - so he's at the 'complex' now? But not an IF......
-
Even better (or worse?) - one of the things he was on bail from was a charge of using a car to try to run over a woman with whom he had been involved.

cases down some today. Vaccine resistance beginning to wane some In MI. Over a million vaccinations done in the last two weeks - even taking pediatric and booster shots, there was still an increase in the rate of vaccinations going to the general public

we'll see if the money moves this pretty quick ... or not....

LOL - Larry Summers doesn't make me feel anything about myself bro. Get over your rookie self
-
Summers was a measure of how economically conservative Obama really was. If the old-school GOP still existed that's were Summers would be by ideology, but being ensconced in liberal academia he stays a Dem and remains just about the most rightward of nominally Democratic economists.

If you look at a couple of the head to heads (other than MSU) at just the right angle this game looks like it could be closer than any Michigan fan with eyes believes it will be.

Was is Cristian Santana that is supposedly such a hot SS prospect that they had literally been hiding him in the Dominican for the last couple of years before they signed him this summer? At 17 he might not be ready until that guy we sign for 6 yrs goes back to FA!

Well, maybe if we had a Wander Franco in A ball this year but right - otherwise point taken.

I think as people get a chance to look more closely Story does tend to keep looking better. Initially one knock was that '21 was a down year and could be the beginning of the end for him age wise, but then you break down the game logs and you see after he got over some bumps and bruises mid-season he really tore it up down the stretch in August and Sept - easily exceeding his lifetime OPS over his last 230 PA.

HaHa. It will be telling if once they have an unassailable lead on the #1 pick, the coaching suddenly becomes less self-destructive. 🤔

yeah - you probably could. Anyone can when the adrenaline turns off 90% of your higher functions. The rational layer is the recent evolutionary graft, when pain and fear take over it all goes out the window and your limbics are no different than a cornered rat's. Why do you think when 20 yr veteran LEO's shoot people with their hand's up it's after a high speed chase or physical battle? It's really hard to teach human beings to suppress fear and maintain rational function when the fight/flight hormones are flooding the bloodstream. it's about as rare as not washing out of navy fighter pilot training and requires constant reinforcement not to be lost again. The problem is it's really hard to recognize biological reality without throwing a monkey wrench into a legal system based on holding people responsible to behave rationally. That's goes back to what we talked about earlier and why I am a believer in holding people responsible for that first stupid act that puts them in the position of no longer being physically/mentally able to control themselves anymore. That is the point at which it's fair to demand they be responsible because they still do have control of their 'faculties'

Could be he's had some coaches that didn't connect well, could be why a bunch of them are gone. But the other thing that plays into this is that Harbaugh has had decent recruiting classes -relatively anyway. When kids who had other options before they signed up with you get to Ann Arbor and then find themselves not starting they bail, and Harbaugh doesn't lie to them (or apparently pay them) to try and freeze them in place like Urban Meyer used to when he was at Columbus. And it's the right thing to do. Charbonnet is having a nice career in LA. He'd be sitting in the bench in Ann Arbor. I give JH credit for being OK with with all the kids he recruits getting a chance to play even if it's not with UM. The wrong guys are going to leave sometimes but that's the kind of thing that should make college football a different animal from pro football. When/If the college game finally loses that last trace of being about the players, I'm not going to care about it anymore anyway. One chance to rethink your commitment seems fair to me. The Bo line about 'those who stay" has always been BS. Players go through the work and pain to become players so they can play, not so they can sit on the bench and watch better players on their team reap the accolades. If a kid can go somewhere else and play, he should, and his coaches should support him. Otherwise you're just using kids. The coaches that won't support kids are the bigger threat to the future of college sports than the ones that will.

Damn. I though maybe Al could have saved enough S&H Green Stamps.

My recollection is generally poor but I thought it was an off year so I cheated and looked it up: Prop3 - 2018. https://ballotpedia.org/Michigan_Proposal_3,_Voting_Policies_in_State_Constitution_Initiative_(2018)

No doubt. That is likely why you see the Tigers more active earlier than most teams. You get the idea they make their offers and if they are refused they move on to their next target. But a situation like this where several guys are waiting for one to establish the market is probably frustrating Avila's preference to getting a deal done quickly.

I'd accept that logic in any sport except baseball. The neuro-response time to manage hitting MLB pitching degrades as a matter of the aging process and the clock is pretty much genetically programmed for each player. You can be in absolutely perfect health at 34 but still lose your ability to wait long enough to pull the trigger on a 97 mph heater that the slider gets you.

pretty wide variation by state. At one end, in MI back in the day you did to have swear out an affidavit that you couldn't be there in person to get an absentee, whereas when we were in MN, starting about a month before the election you could just walk into a municipal office and pick up an absentee or early vote on the spot, no questions asked.

how cheap does he have to be? I really don't follow the arg anyway since the complaint was what they paid the guy last year, who isn't here this year. How much of your team salary allotment are two or three wins worth? In baseball they actually hang numbers on that - I guess not so much in football. Of course the standard disclaimer applies regarding whether they came into this season caring about wins..
