They get him for the minimum the rest of this year, but would have to go through arbitration next year for a price tag of about 4-5 mil (because you can't decrease salaries too far in arb). I'd bet he's non-tendered.

I am on board with trading Skubal, by the way. Flexor injuries tend to be Tommy John precursors. Of course the people you are trading him to know this as well, so not sure you can extract max value.

Roster crunches take care of themselves. There isn't looking like one this offseason, and that is all we need to worry about.

If he is in the minors the rest of the year, he won't hit 5 years of service time and would still have an option year left. They could absolutely option him in the spring if they so choose. Once he hits 5 years, he can just refuse to go down and they would have to option somebody else.

Optioning does not mean giving up on. It's a perfectly reasonable way to extend control into 2025, and the rotation doesn't really need him.

Turnbull's 30 days are up next Thursday. He hits 5 years service on August 28, at which point he can refuse assignment.
