  1. It may not be once you factor in run scoring environment. (looks it up). It is worse even when you factor in environment.
  2. He seemed to be reciting something from memory. I've come to the conclusion that most of these "interview a MAGA person" things aren't legit.
  3. 4 man rotation because of all the off-days. Don't need a 5th starter until September 3 (assuming full health, which is dumb). It makes sense.
  4. Was it somebody in here who said their analytics establishment is a giant cluster and a lot of the public comments from Avila and Illitch has been white wash? I forget where I heard that or read it, but it seems to jive. You can have fancy labs and equipment, but without good data, without good analysis, and without good processes, it may do more harm than good.
  5. https://twitter.com/CodyStavenhagen/status/1561021688736890881?t=MmkGpOLJ3AO4n4XzzNgObw&s=19
  6. And a pretty good defense that year. I remember Leyland saying often that bullpen was good because he got to use them when he wanted.
  7. I wonder how much of those bad bullpens was bad defense stretching the pitching thin.
  8. They all report to Sartori.
  9. What if the analytics staff or pro scouting outfit is a complete cluster and throwing everybody off? I'm not saying it is; I'm just saying unless you are behind the scenes you don't know the cause. Also, the projection systems weren't too high on this offense coming into the season. It's underperformed, but not as much as we think, especially once you factor in the reduced run scoring environment.
  10. Devil's advocate: without being on the inside, we can't say that the hitting implosion is Coolbaugh's fault.
  11. Wily Peralta's contract incentives aren't public, but it wouldn't shock me if he had one coming at 40 IP.
  12. Define "see in a Tigers uniform." I say that because Parker seems likely to be added to the 40 Man Roster this offseason, thus you may get a spring training photo of him sooner.
  13. Yeah, I got you. I just kinda wanted to make it clear that things have changed a lot in the past 20 years or so.
  14. Oh, I thought you were talking years. Carry on.
  15. He wasn't there any of those years.
  16. The GM does a lot more than select the players these days. They set the course of the organization. Baseball decisions are made by a team of people now. A lot of the role is managerial in nature.
  17. Also, I finished this up yesterday. My list of the resume's of every MLB Baseball Ops front office person in several categories. Current GM's who aren't the heads of baseball ops, former GM's employed, former GM's unemployed, current day Assistant GM's or Vice Presidents trying to break them up into buckets (analytics, international/amateur scouting, player development, pro scouting, jack-of-all-trades/executive/misc) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1us36qGEI-_eNObAK6YHNn3VKxR3X-y2Oi_TSaD4R_hQ/edit# I think I am going to add the current heads of baseball ops just to have a baseline.
  18. Dombrowski wasn't really a "retread" when the Tigers hired him. He was employed by the Marlins and poached by Illitch when new ownership came aboard and DD was looking around. I tend to agree on Daniels, regarding the Rangers inability to develop players of late. I get the feeling they were also slow to adapt as the Tigers were. Also, the mention of Preller dredged up memories of the shady nature of Preller's suspension roughly 10 years ago and the morass around that. I believe it was @microline133 who told me about what actually went down there and I don't know that I am at liberty to speak of it, but it wasn't good.
  19. This is less honorable, more sticking to the plan because you don't want to risk penalties from blowing up the bonus pool. If you had a deal with Madden too, that goes to hell if you draft somebody you don't have a number on.
  20. A lot of the help Preller provided wasn't above board. Look into his suspension. Question: Is Theo Epstein a retread? Was AJ Hinch a retread when the Astros hired him?
  21. One thing I learned this week. Rounds 2-20 are still determined by reverse draft order.
  22. News of Skubal's surgery came out an hour ago and this board is so numb to it that it hasn't made it here.
  23. Without being in the room or knowing the people, I don't understand why a "retread" should be thrown out prima facie. Daniels had a successful run and is still in his mid 40's. I'm not opposed.
