Apropos of nothing... https://archive.ph/OiU75

Welp, the bastard finally got me. Had a trip planned this week with four stops, starting with my brother in Cincinnati, parents in Dayton... Final night with my brother, I noticed a scratchy throat. He had been taking some Clairton for allergies, so we decide to do the home test before I go up to my parents today. His was very positive, mine was negative, so I got out of there, checked into a hotel, got the rapid NAAT this morning and started heading south, preparing to turnaround if negative. Sure enough, positive. I wanted to note two rapid Antigens (one last night, one this morning) Luckily I drove so was able to drive back today to quarantine at home and not get stranded or infect a hotel. Overall, just kinda feel like I had a vaccine yesterday minus the arm pain plus a bit of a head cold. We'll see how it goes.

A few other notes... The pitching motion has a very fast peak stress on the elbow, dependent, yes on velocity, but also on timing. If you can sync everything up in the body just right you can reduce the load. This is likely why pitching fatigued is such a problem and why injuries can cascade. Every pitcher's bone/muscle structure is different and will have different optimal mechanics.

True, but they are overusing torque too. At least in my training in mechanics there aren't really torques applied to a joint. (Note that I have seen moments applied to a joint, but torques are a specific type of moment, and it is possible there are subtleties in biomechanics compared to mechanical systems that lead to that terminology) Torque tends to be a term overused by people who don't know physics trying to sound smart. Not saying that is what Chaz was doing here because Driveline fell into that trap too, so there is some literature out there. I've just noticed that in ads and a lot of sport discussion. Torque, to me, is effectively a twisting force. I would call the load in question on the elbow a moment, since there is likely some moment couple leading to internal stresses. Perhaps the load causing suppination/pronation of the forearm could be called a torque. I just hear it often in situations where the load being talked about is a point load. When I was looking at research on elbow mechanics in pitching 15ish years ago when I had access to academic papers they called it "distraction" forces. Either way, the dynamics of any mechanism are clear: higher velocity = higher loads = higher stress. Since the elbow is stabilized by ligaments that cannot be strengthened, it is very clearly the weakest link, and becoming even more so as we are training pitchers to throw harder, there is very little we can do to strengthen that weakest link.

Velocity is the biggest driver. And torque is an overused term that really doesn't have much to do with this.

Also, that 60 day rule is a big reason why there is a rash of free agent signings around mid February when 40 man spots open up.
-
You have to activate 60 day guys in the offseasom.

I am mildly perturbed by it, in part because it doesn't really solve the core issue. Sorry to say but a lot of the people who are really struggling with the debt will just be hampered by some other type of debt because their money habits are pathetic.

People don't believe me he is worse than Trump.

I would be willing to bet the fastball is harder on the elbow than the slider. I know I have read otherwise back in the middle part of last decade, but fastball velocity has increased significantly of late.

This is a bit dated, but this type of calculation is a lot more reasonable than anything McCosky and his complete lack of ability to understand any roster rules or nuance could muster. Note the Tigers aren't listed, which implies they don't have a crunch to worry about. Plenty if flotsam on the current 40 man. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/examining-the-american-leagues-2022-40-man-crunch/

De La Rosa as in Eric De La Rosa? He may not even get protected from the AAA Phase. Anyways, McCosky doesn't know what he is talking about, in general. In the case of SGL, they don't pick him up in the deadline if they don't plan on adding him.

Gio Arriera was cut today. 4th rounder in that oh-so-stellar 2017 Draft. The 2-5 picks are all either retired or released.
-
It may not be once you factor in run scoring environment. (looks it up). It is worse even when you factor in environment.

He seemed to be reciting something from memory. I've come to the conclusion that most of these "interview a MAGA person" things aren't legit.

4 man rotation because of all the off-days. Don't need a 5th starter until September 3 (assuming full health, which is dumb). It makes sense.

Was it somebody in here who said their analytics establishment is a giant cluster and a lot of the public comments from Avila and Illitch has been white wash? I forget where I heard that or read it, but it seems to jive. You can have fancy labs and equipment, but without good data, without good analysis, and without good processes, it may do more harm than good.

And a pretty good defense that year. I remember Leyland saying often that bullpen was good because he got to use them when he wanted.
-
I wonder how much of those bad bullpens was bad defense stretching the pitching thin.
-
They all report to Sartori.

What if the analytics staff or pro scouting outfit is a complete cluster and throwing everybody off? I'm not saying it is; I'm just saying unless you are behind the scenes you don't know the cause. Also, the projection systems weren't too high on this offense coming into the season. It's underperformed, but not as much as we think, especially once you factor in the reduced run scoring environment.
