So the DFA window is 7 days, and the non-tender day is Friday. DFA doesn't mean a player has been placed on waivers. In Foley's case, he is also injured and literally per the rules cannot be outrighted (there is a small window where he can that ended yesterday), so he will not be going through waivers. He is a certain non-tender. Ditto Guenther. Rainey as well because you can't outright a player added after Aug 15.
-
Nope, I bet he is non-tendered and has to settle for an NRI.

In the cases of Darnell, Little, and Mattison, the Tigers can offer them a raise on their minor league split (the AAA minimum for somebody on the 40 man is $127k next year... They can offer something on the order of $160k) and not have to pass them through waivers. This assuming all six of those guys are non-tendered Friday.

Since July 1, Liranzo slashed .195/.257/.299 at Erie and was so bad behind the plate he was a full-time DH after July 27.
-
Liranzo isn't a lock, imo.

Gun to my head? Hao Yu Lee Trei Cruz Thayron Liranzo Jake Miller RJ Petit I also think Torres accepts, so that would require six DFA's. Tanner Rainey Sean Guenther Jack Little Dugan Darnell Andy Ibanez Drew Sommers I would expect anybody DFA'd today to be non-tendered Friday and Little, Darnell, and Sommers to very quickly re-sign to minor league deals.

Salary caps don't redistribute talent. Salary caps suppress salaries and decrease expenses for owners. The luxury tax is a soft cap and has gotten more severe with every CBA. Has it helped parity? I would submit it hasn't. What has helped are things like the competitive balance draft picks.

Actually I am interested in the WAR talk. I have been meaning to sit down and refresh myself on the inner workings of the different systems. Having said that, it is a pretty significant week on the roster front.

That was my guess when Trump changed his mind. Occam's razor really.

Can't edit for some reason, but Lange's day of reckoning is actually tomorrow. I forgot to mention the Gleyber QO. And finally, injured players can be outrighted today, but cannot be from today until March.
-
Gonna be some transactions tomorrow... Alex Lange's 7 day DFA window is up. It's the 40-man roster deadline. Because the non-tender deadline is Friday, a lot of non-tenders just get DFA'ed tomorrow to jump the gun. Even some non-arb guys may be chopped. Note: anybody injured or anybody selected to the 40-man after August 15 can't be outrighted, so they may be prime non-tender candidates. Teams like non-tendering, because you can just agree to a minor league deal and not risk losing guys to waivers. It also doesn't count as a release, which is significant because players released after Labor Day can't be added back to your major league roster until May. We might get a guy or two on the non-tender bubble avoiding arbitration.

Amateurs trying to prosecute elite career prosecutors is going about as well as one would imagine.

I am sad I missed out on a lot of the nitty gritty talk last week. I probably won't have much nerd time until after Christmas though 😀

Did Longenhagen's roster crunch post make it in here? https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2025-american-league-40-man-roster-crunch-analysis/ Trevin Michael wasn't on my Rule 5 protection radar.

Atlanta Airport yesterday, there was a mother carrying her baby and a bag rushing to get to her connection using the moving sidewalk in lieu of the train to avoid somebody bumping into her baby. On the moving sidewalk was a woman standing still leaning against one side with her bag intentionally blocking the sidewalk. As I walked by the mother off the moving sidewalk, I shook my head and we shared the same pet peeve at that moment.

I assume people know that MRI's are often used to confirm dementia. It is a very difficult condition to diagnose, and the MRI is the last and most invasive step after ruling several other things out. Or maybe he needs Tommy John...

Hah, I read this between bench press sets.

Oh, I'm not defending him... I'm just saying these people who were still buddy buddy with him later on are scum.

Coming up on year four of the Harris regime and we are still assuming just nine regular position players?
-
Say what you will about Trump. At least at some point he cut off communication. What about all these other people knowingly palling around with a registered sex offender after 2008? They all look absolutely terrible in these emails.
-
There is a fascinating thing people here do, and that is projecting their opinion on Scott Harris. e.g. "I think Harris would like (player I like)." It is kinda funny once you see it once, like the beat guys loving on former Tigers.

I thought the timing had to do with the imminent swearing in of the AZ rep.

I think grains of salt need to be taken with any email from Epstein. He's not the most credible person.

That was my #1 nugget gleaned from those emails.
