They are shots in the dark, but some are more educated than others. Some have scouting contacts. Some see them in person, and more importantly, know what they are looking for. Some are fed pitch/swing tracking data. BA, for example, has a lot of good information, but put an influencer in charge of their Tigers coverage, so their Tigers rankings can be taken with a grain of salt.

I've found Eno's numbers have helped me find some diamonds in the rough in fantasy. They aren't perfect, but it does give a glimpse at to one reason why Kikuchi may have had more value than the general public thinks. The medical stuff that Rosenthal brought up is the Occam's razor though. Part of me wonders if that's why the Tigers wanted to trade him at all.
