  1. He was also 27 in AA this year, 26 in A and AA last year. The numbers don't jump off the page at me in any way given the context. Granted, it does look like he had TJ in 2021, so it could be a case of getting somebody on the way up. I don't know much about his arsenal or his makeup. Minor league rule 5 picks tend to be roster filler. These guys will likely just slot into Erie's bullpen and munch some garbage innings this year. No shame in that. Somebody has to.
  2. Given the partisan 180 on Russia, I can't wait to see extremists on both sides twist themselves in knots over a Maduro/Putin alliance.
  3. FWIW, I really wasn't trying to be snarky. Genuinely curious... To me, a reliever that belongs in the bigs is one that is blowing the doors off of AAA: sub 2 ERA, K/9 above 12 or so.
  4. Were we looking at the same BR page? On what basis should he have gotten MLB time?
  5. What if it's a LHH outfielder? And they have room to take two if they want to.
  6. They are eligible for next year's draft if they don't make the playoffs. Also, there's a bit of karma at play here. Note how those are all even years. Cleveland had the worst record in baseball in 1991, 1987, 1985, and 1971, but didn't get first overall pick because of the league alternation rule that was in place until 2007. (And was the reason the Tigers had the #2 pick in 1990 and 2004)
  7. I would classify the White Sox and A's as the losers of this. Both had great odds, toward the back of the lottery, staring down the barrel of a bad year, and ineligible for next year's lottery. Cleveland and Cincy the obvious winners.
  8. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/12/05/biden-inflation-record-trump/ Good article on the merits of inflationary policy between Biden and Trump.
  9. Good stuff here. The Tigers may be better off not getting a lottery pick this year. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/mlb-draft-lottery-2024-could-certain-teams-win-by-losing/ Bottom line: weak 2024 draft class, the rule forcing the Tigers to draft at least 10th in a stronger 2025 if they win this year's lottery.
  10. The Expos/Nationals have 10 players in the Hall of Fame Gary Carter Andre Dawson Vlad Guerrero Randy Johnson Pedro Martinez Tony Perez Tim Raines Ivan Rodriguez Lee Smith Larry Walker The Padres, Pilots/Brewers, and Royals were also in that same expansion class. 11. We should know which competitive balance pick we get tomorrow. I believe that is set December 1. It will be after the second round, but the formula to determine the order within is not public.
  12. The deleted quote tweet was from Doyle. He was caught red handed just lifting work. It appears some of the lifted draft odds he is using are wrong. Check out MLB, BA. Wikipedia has a table that is correct.
  13. That source has big time credibility issues. Some of those numbers are not correct. I suspect he is using the faulty Tankathon stuff. Doyle has some plagiarism in his track record. I recommend unfollowing.
  14. Exactly, free agency is not like going to the grocery store to get a gallon of orange juice. The orange juice has some agency.
  15. The 40-man is at 38, so they likely plan on at least two more moves! Probably a Rule 5 flier for the bullpen and another starting pitcher. Beyond that, probably a reliever or two, and then some bargain hunting in February when some free agents are playing musical chairs, with an eye for the waiver wire.
  16. There are very few people who haven't been affected in some way by mental illness; either themselves or somebody close to them. I'm sorry you have backward views on it, but at least acknowledge how hurtful it is to espouse those views and how ignorant it makes you appear. I acknowledge going the Billy Madison screed route may have been over-the-top, but it is apropos given the severity and how out of bounds those two posts were. It deserved top rope treatment.
  17. Lee and I both noticed a tweet from a fangraphs writer calling Olson the #2 starter today. I actually agree with it. And Harris has talked him up at some point this offseason.
  18. I think the rotation right now is penciled in as Skubal, Maeda, Olson, Mize, one more addition. Manning has options. SGL et al can wait their turn. All of them will probably be needed. Wentz is out of options, by the way. Fangraphs says Faedo is too, but I am 99.9% sure he's 4th option eligible. I know Wentz isn't; I've gotten second hand confirmation from the org.
  19. Frontloading is interesting. Probably a bit more payroll space this year, since a lot of guys will be getting arb raises next year and more additions next year. Also the new AAV rules for traded players may increase his trade value some next year if a buying team is against the tax.
