  1. Purdue tried for him last year, and I remember there were reasons he wanted to stay where he was. Family medical reasons to stay in North Carolina... I could be misremembering.
  2. Benetti worked 20 MLB games this past season for Fox. 18 on Saturdays, 2 on Thursdays. He also works CFB for Fox. So your Dickerson TV games will likely be Saturdays and then Thursday-Saturday once football starts up. (In 2021 while still with ESPN, he only worked six games for them.)
  3. From one of the Peacock games that Benetti worked with Morris.
  4. https://nolayingup.com/videos/strapped/strapped-spring-training/strapped-spring-training-part-3-the-boys-of-spring Benetti guests here, plays putt putt with some golfers.
  5. Also, expect Greg Gania to backfill Dan on days he is doing TV.
  6. I've got some inside info here. It will be full time.
  7. Don't get your hopes up on Monroe being replaced. Do get your hopes up JB can get more out of him.
  8. The Padres and DBacks with MLB worked out direct distribution after their Bally's went belly-up. I anticipate the same thing will happen eventually here. Not their own RSN, just licensing the games to local affiliates and producing it for streaming. I'm not really sure the ins-and-outs.
  9. Frankly, I was glad to see Robbie Hummel left ESPN so they can work together again on Fox.
  10. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/effectively-wild-episode-1419-benettis-booth/ https://blogs.fangraphs.com/effectively-wild-episode-1277-the-best-baseball-is-back/ https://blogs.fangraphs.com/effectively-wild-episode-1172-season-preview-series-astros-and-white-sox/ He has been on EW a few times and was hilarious.
  11. Expect some news here today, and expect some really good news here today. (Or so I've been told) Jason Bennetti!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
  12. There IS a "Scouting and Film Exchange" manual I found reference to in an old version of the Big Ten Handbook (The Sportsmanship policy is a three page chapter, Chapter 10, of that book. Coach conduct is Chapter 11). Here is the Big Ten Football Guidelines https://bigten.org/documents/2021/8/30//Big_Ten_Football_Game_Management_Manual.pdf?id=7262
  13. The sportsmanship policy does not cite specific rules on top of NCAA rules, just provides an enforcement mechanism for the Conference to act when NCAA rules are violated. Sharing among teams is not a violation of NCAA Rules (probably should be). Filming and doing what Stalions did is.
  14. Not surprisingly after finding the three page Sportsmanship policy, the Michigan echo chamber, as most college sports or political echo chambers are, was again wrong. https://bigten.org/documents/2022/11/23/2022_23_Big_Ten_Handbook_Sportsmanship.pdf
  15. Forgive me for not having time the last couple days...
  16. Do you have the actual text of it? Forgive me for not taking everything from the Michigan echo chamber at face value right now. BTW, I have cooled off on the "suspend/fire Harbaugh immediately" stuff. Not because my school was dragged in, but the argument that it is a pretty slippery slope to succumb to the mob here. Similar to the reasonable Congresspeople (Porter, Jackson) who voted against expelling Santos last week. From the Extra Points Newsletter Also, there was a lot of stuff in the wake of the Astros scandal that showed it may not have much of an effect. If teams know they have your signs, you can game theory that. It does sound like teams were onto Michigan for a while.
  17. Rather than dismiss out of hand for the obvious PR issues, I will say make-up is something this front office really values. Guys with a good attitude will encourage each other to improve. The complete lack of attrition and accountability from him is where I could see teams shying away, not wanting a cranky veteran who could interrupt the development apparatus. Having said that, there is a whole chapter on him in the MVP Machine really helping Cleveland's pitching development. I don't think he is the same person now as he was when that took place though...
  18. What rule did Purdue violate last year?
  19. These guys were eligible for minor league free agency, but didn't hit free agency yesterday. Guys in this state tend to sign successor contracts that aren't public.
  20. Minor league free agent list is out. Guys who weren't free agents I had on my list: Eliezer Alfonzo, Jose Alvarez, Sean Guenther, Wilkel Hernandez, Marco Jimenez, Tim Naughton, Quincy Nieporte, Bryan Sammons, Yosber Sanchez, Luis Santana, Aneurys Zabala. Tigers must have re-signed them all. Jack O'Loughlin was on the list and not on mine. He's a gray area so I wasn't sure. Signed and sat out while finishing up in Australia.
  21. Anyways, next up! Next Tuesday, November 14. Rule 5 protection deadline. My guess is the two that will get protected there are Dingler and Flores. Room will need to be made there. Anybody DFA'ed next Tuesday can be... Non-tendered on November 17. Yeah, this is normally players arb eligible, but not always. There are actually rules I just learned about for what you can pay minor league players who have been outrighted. Somebody like Freddy Pacheco, to name somebody, made the MLB minimum this past year and if outrighted, would have to make half that in the minors. Maybe the Tigers want to keep him around for less, have a deal in place with him and don't want to expose him to waivers. Non-tender and re-sign. They did this with a few guys last year. Any injured players can't be outrighted any later than next Tuesday (until well into spring training). Anybody who has been added to the 40-man since August 15 can't be outrighted any later than next Tuesday (until well into spring training). Finally, anybody who would have been free agent eligible yesterday who is still on the 40-man has to agree to a major league contract for next year before being sent down. Yada yada yada, if you are wondering why somebody is outrighted next week instead of later in the offseason, in a lot of cases, you can't outright them then. Finally, these are all different than releasing somebody. If you outright release somebody, there are rules on when they can rejoin your major league roster.
