  1. If he is in the minors the rest of the year, he won't hit 5 years of service time and would still have an option year left. They could absolutely option him in the spring if they so choose. Once he hits 5 years, he can just refuse to go down and they would have to option somebody else.
  2. Optioning does not mean giving up on. It's a perfectly reasonable way to extend control into 2025, and the rotation doesn't really need him.
  3. Turnbull's 30 days are up next Thursday. He hits 5 years service on August 28, at which point he can refuse assignment.
  4. I... uh... saw this elsewhere and thought it was funny.
  5. Kinda the point I was trying to make. Wasn't trying to dig at anybody, but I do know that shouting from the rooftops about politics in this era really doesn't change minds and just makes people go away. This thread, in particular, has a lot of tweets from accounts I've muted or blocked because I don't think they advance the discourse (Rupar, Flipowski, etc.). I can just check Newspaper websites to get caught up on things and not be fired up or feel the need to pontificate on social media.
  6. 1. Frog is boiled 2. I have cut wayyy down on my politics consumption both here and social media. It is just emotionally healthy. I can follow news like this without spewing opinions all over the place.
  7. That was the game Clark was pulled from last week after overheating. It has been so hot out, it makes sense.
  8. The problem here is there are more than 4 guys who need to play shortstop in April and May, and more than 6 June-August... So if you want him playing only short, he's playing 2-3 days a week.
  9. I noticed Hao Yu Lee was pulled in the first inning of the night cap yesterday.
  10. That was a shrewd move masked by the Edwin trade falling apart.
  11. For what it's worth, the current position player crop in Toledo is the least roster-filly I can remember it being.
  12. Lipcius activation didn't make the transaction logs. Castro and Del Pozo were on the IL so weren't using a spot.
  13. Bubba Thompson DFA'ed by the Rangers. I see no reason not to snap him up if he makes it to the Tigers on waivers.
  14. He's not good and he's out of options. They found a superior left-handed option on waivers last week. Not sure what more you need. His ERA was pushing 5 and periph's didn't suggest much more.
  15. Bunch of minor league updates in the Tigers injury updates today. Angel De Jesus had TJ surgery. Roberto Campos shoulder strain. Brady Cerkownyk, meniscus surgery. Navigato: shoulder sprain/surgery. Hess is currently out with a shoulder: it was an oblique earlier this year that sidelined him on the way back from TJ.
  16. Well, for the first time in a decade next year, the Tigers won't be penciling a sub replacement DH on a bloated contract in the lineup every day. Even before Miggy fell off the map, VMart preceded him.
  17. Common thread in 2021 and 2023 for the slow starts was having the wrong guys emerge from camp. 2021 got better once Ramos was cut free, JaCoby Jones was out of the lineup, and Willi Castro wasn't killing the team at shortstop. 2023 got better once some of the awful bullpen decisions made coming out of camp were reversed. Never forget Trey Wingenter and Garrett Hill made the roster over Tyler Holton and Will Vest.
  18. Maton still will have options next year. He wasn't down for 20 days, so didn't use one this year. I don't think that will play a role in any decisions. I think he's close to a lock to sticking around. The only thing that may make Baddoo shaky is arb eligibility, but as a super 2 with a couple of uninspiring years who still has some use, I see him getting tendered and getting a high 6 figures deal. I tend to agree that Haase and Ibanez are possible if not likely 40-man casualties, but I could see them both wanting to come back on a minor league deal. Also, btw, Ibanez will still have an option. He has one remaining and did not use one this year because his time in the minors was off the 40 man, and not wedged between major league stints. They seem to like Ibanez and some of the advanced metrics that take batted ball type into play may back that up. It doesn't look like there will be any roster crunch issues, so there won't be many hard decisions.
  19. No. Leonard was DFA to clear room for Amed Rosario on the 40 man roster. The Tigers did not trade any international slot money for him.
  20. I uhhh have been not home tonight and was unaware of the nono

  22. Say you have group tickets to an event on the weekend, or a tee time e.g., and you are recruiting early in the week. Text the person and they say "I will let you know soon," but they take so long that it is too late to find anybody else once they say no. Part peeve, part pondering... At what point do you recruit over them?
  23. I know of one he had... https://www.thedailybeast.com/ron-desantis-ally-kent-stermon-killed-himself-after-being-accused-of-sexual-misconduct-with-minor And a literally knew this because a friend of mine lived down the street from him and was facebook friends with this guy and saw some odd facebook postings tagging Ronny D's personal account in the weeks leading up to his death.
