So that Torkmoil account is not very reliable, but I did see a tweet from a Canadian former Blue Jays/Expos writer with a couple thousand followers before the Torkmoil tweet that reported that, and that catcher is Canadian so it is possible that is well sourced. Anyways, if you believe Clark signed at #4 money, that is 640k saved there, and you have about 750k to play with in the 5% buffer. Throw in any savings in the back half of the Top 10 and that is what we have to throw around. It would be just like that Torkmoil account to lift that info and pass it off as his own though.

Note it's 5 HS, 6 College with the extra pick. But the answer is 2003. 4 in 2004, then Chadd took over drafts. This isn't in a vaccuum, though. I'm guessing, and I could be wrong here, due to the covid years and NIL that college seniors have right now, college juniors are a bit less signable and high school players are a bit more crowded out, shifting the tide a bit.

If I come across somebody in the front office, I'll be sure to let them know to check college ERA before pulling the trigger next time.

All that matters is who will be the better player down the road. Timeline doesn't matter. When we go back and look at old drafts, what do we look at? Were the players good? Maybe the Tigers cashed them in for a Hall of Famer (Miller/Maybin)? We've just got to take the long view on it, and a lot of this stuff about handedness/timeline/position/college vs. high school just doesn't matter.

With the exception of one person, the people in this thread have something on the degree of 0.01% of the information that the people who made these picks have. Really really harsh draft day opinions are a symptom of hanging out on the left side of the Dunning Kruger chart.

Well, if you have some guys in mind with numbers and you have to blow past your #1 slot to sign Crews, it can blow the rest of your draft up and potentially risk going over the 5% overage limit if you aren't careful. In short, those concerns are more about making sure your whole draft doesn't blow up and end up losing next year's #1 pick.
