Who, though? Warner/Discovery is trying to get out of their RSN's. Disney had to sell what became Bally due to antitrust concerns... There aren't too many suiters out there, and the business model seems to be in decline.

There are so many factors that it is tough to get a mathematical number on how effective things are. Good luck isolating variables, so that leads to bad faith actors twisting data how they want. Let's say you went out into public in 2020. Your chances of catching COVID were dependent upon... -Amount of people you came into contact with -How long you came into contact with those people -How close you were to those people -Whether those people were masked -Whether you were masked -Was it indoors or outdoors -What was the humidity/temperature indoors or outdoors -How strong is your immune system? -How was the ventilation? Good luck isolating all the variables you need, and that's only a fraction of them.

I think people just don't understand exponential math. This is especially true when they rack up credit card debt, which our country is terrible at, but when you talk about a disease that spreads exponentially, something like mask wearing that can reduce spread a small amount really compounds once you get several potential disease hosts down the line.

I was going to suggest that the answer to that was "He didn't have the extreme legislative majorities DeSantis does." But he did. Either way, Ronny D won't have 70-80% majorities in either house of Congress if he wins. Good luck railroading congress like he does the Florida Legislature.

Was that DD's wife or daughter? I went to a pretty big school and would often have classes on different parts of campus ten minutes apart. Single entry queuing in the buildings when you have to book it a half mile just makes that impractical. Plus, somebody who wants to shoot things up will be able to do so regardless. Just snag the badge of a victim and get your access.

Warner Brothers-Discovery trying to get out of the RSN business now too. That's three more teams whose local media deal is up in the air.

I dispute them being hotties, but I digress.

Jacksonville... City Council is 14-5 Republican Majority. Every elected executive is a Republican, including the sheriff and district attorney. The one thing Florida kinda has going for it is the gun laws aren't batshit lax. That is likely to change in the upcoming legislative session, though, as the memory of the Parkland shooting has worn off with NRA help.

This is something I just don't get, his fame.

Tomorrow she's going to say that people should be required to draw and quarter troops, and that those people should be subject to search and seizure without a warrant when being tried for that crime, and that those people can self-incriminate themselves in court, found guilty without a jury, also sued without a jury, given a tortuous penalty by another state.

How ironic is it that it is easier to watch a game out-of-market than in? I'm good for everything except Rays/Marlins.

Growing up in western Ohio, all this talk of radio reminds me of why I hate the Red Wings. As a kid, WJR was the radio affiliate and the Tigers had priority unless the Red Wings were in the playoffs, and the Tigers got bumped to 800 (I forget the call signal), and I couldn't get their games. It's only natural to root against the team keeping me from listening to the Tigers.

The replies to this tweet, I can't tell if they are serious, of people bemoaning the fact that Mize is injured this year (Not sure what they expected?)...

It gets into an existential conversation about what farm system rankings should include. If it is a snapshot of current prospect grades of players who have not exhausted rookie eligibility, well that doesn't mean much. If it also includes infrastructure and recent track record of developing talent, that gives a much better and more significant evaluation IMO. I think, in general, Law missed that there were a lot of prospects who went from the brink to the radar last year. It's not that they are all great, it's just that there were less disasters last year.
-
LOL, Keith Law responded on the Athletic baseball podcast to a Tigers blogger saying he was wrong about the farm system ranking. Responded specifically to the list of names that was listed. "That's the point. Those guys aren't good." I chuckled. I tend to think he's more right than a fanboy blog, but do think he missed the mark to some degree.

The rule changes will have a big effect on that. Not sure who here went to a minor league game with pitch clock last year.

https://theathletic.com/4191908/2023/02/13/mlb-extra-innings-position-player-rules/ 2019: 37 games went 13 innings or longer. 8 games went 15 innings or longer. 2022: 11 games went 13 innings or longer. None went 15 or longer. The chain reaction from those roster moves bleeds down the minor leagues. If you have to call up three pitchers to have a fresh staff the next day, then AAA gets depleted, AA, etc.... And you have pitchers whose arms you are trying to protect pitching in bad spots. I guess the overall point I'm trying to make is, if you are the fan that watches games and sees the extra inning runner, I can understand how you may not like it. Hell, I don't. If you are the type of fan who follows roster moves, nitty gritty, minor leagues, etc., it starts to make more sense.

It is 100% about avoiding tearing apart bullpens in 19 inning games. Ensuing roster churn/injuries/etc. From that standpoint it makes sense.

This one was one that hit hard... I've only been on that campus once. My parents went there, some cousins, a late uncle. I don't really know why it hit, but I'm sleep deprived this afternoon. We should be numb now. It doesn't happen all of them. It doesn't help Florida is about to open the floodgates and drive up the chances this will happen to me when I'm stopping by the grocery store.

There is nothing more profitable to the political machine than an unsolved problem.

AP Courses saved me about 5 or 6 courses worth of tuition, likely allowing me to graduate in 4 years.

Mental health is the new bogeyman. But then they go and target some of the most mentally vulnerable children with other priorities.

Romad. Thoughts are with you. I didn't really want to add anything else because I am seeing misinformation abound in other sites I frequent, and my only hope is that people resist the urge to share scanner rumors or social media malinformation while one of our own is on pins and needles.

So in summary. Tigers seem likely to miss out on a 50M check in the coming weeks. I could see MLB floating them some money, but not sure what the league's emrrgency reserves are like, especially three years after COVID. The games should be telecast. This year on BSD while all the litigation is going down. I bet MLB.TV stays blacked out locally. Maybe a forced sale to AT&T or Comcast means the station becomes NBC Sports Detroit or AT&T Sports Detroit. Again, as the Fangraphs article pointed out, the RSN's would still be profitable if it wasn't for the massive debt taken on to make the purchase. And this is tangential, but for something that was intended to be a consumer protection, DOJ making Disney sell the FSN's ended up being very anticonsumer.
