  1. So in summary. Tigers seem likely to miss out on a 50M check in the coming weeks. I could see MLB floating them some money, but not sure what the league's emrrgency reserves are like, especially three years after COVID. The games should be telecast. This year on BSD while all the litigation is going down. I bet MLB.TV stays blacked out locally. Maybe a forced sale to AT&T or Comcast means the station becomes NBC Sports Detroit or AT&T Sports Detroit. Again, as the Fangraphs article pointed out, the RSN's would still be profitable if it wasn't for the massive debt taken on to make the purchase. And this is tangential, but for something that was intended to be a consumer protection, DOJ making Disney sell the FSN's ended up being very anticonsumer.

  3. Man, I remember some OOTP teams I had 20 or so years ago where I had forsaken defense. Team ERA's in the 6's.
  4. I'll give Yooper a break because of the state in which he lives, but I doubt it's as easy as pulling a lever in the Secaucus utility closet.
  5. "Who cares about offensive defense?" Any pitcher who gives up a fly ball.
  6. Yeah there is no bigger fallacy than the "wait til pitcher x is back in the rotation!"
  7. Santana had some iffy exit velos if I remember right. I think KL has that data and weights it heavily. I'm not sure off hand what his injury was last year but between that and age and pedigree, I can at least be talked into looking past it.
  8. THAT would violate the first amendment. People don't understand that fact. Ad revenues and the free market regulate it. These rules are in place because these platforms don't want their sites to be liable to dark stuff and want to be able to sell ads. Tough to tell Chevy to pay to advertise on their site if they are going to be wedged between nazi tweets.
  9. Well, when one side is cheering on a coup attempt and later pushing misinformation thst gets people killed, the issue is that side leaving the reservation not the people doing the moderating.
  10. Regardless of the question, one of those eight guys is likely to. Now, sifting through and finding the one who does. I think Maton is being slept on, particularly by the "Harris didn't acquire a 3B" crew.
  11. Odds are at least one of Maton, Malloy, Kreidler, Ibanez, Nevin, Lipcius, Short, or Hernandez will.
  12. I'm not asking you to show your work, but things to consider... Drag force depends on shape/profile of bullet and wind. It is often neglected in physics 101 projectile calculations. Just wanted to point out it is unlikely a bullet comes back down to the ground at anywhere near the same speed it left the gun. The bullet will experience a lot more drag on the way back down unless it can do a full 180, and it depends on the orientation of the bullet.
  13. I would pay 20 a month for Tigers games if it was the only way for me to watch them, unless of course cable would offset that.
  14. Yep, N=1 doesn't supercede published (legitimate) science. Another case: another friend of mine on her third case of COVID, was more cautious than me during the shut down and has gotten all her shots as soon as advisable got roughed up pretty good by this variant.
  15. Glad you are doing better, Biff. I wasn't referring to you at all above, just passing along a social interaction I had. I genuinely feel bad for the guy because he is struggling to work, struggling to parent, struggling with everything right now, and when he passed along some sewn vaccine doubt, I couldn't help but wonder if there was a chance the source of that doubt wasn't to blame.
  16. The cost of misinformation... I was talking to a friend the other day who was just getting over COVID. He is somebody who definitely took it very seriously early on, but leans way right, is definitely MAGA. Was telling me it finally got him and it got him hard, potentially long COVID but it's too soon to tell if it is that. Anyways, I broached the topic of how many shots he's had because "I've heard more shots helps the symptoms." He replied "Just one J+J shot. I've heard mixed reviews on boosters." I kept it cordial, just left the topic except to mention yeah, I got it after four shots but was okay after a few days. Just an example of the waters muddying, somebody who was finally turning the corner from a fitness standpoint, hitting the gym hard, and hasn't been able to for three weeks potentially because Tucker Carlson or Joe Rogan planted that seed of doubt about boosters.
  17. NFL isn't dependent on RSN's. College football and basketball aren't either. MLB, NBA, NHL are. I guess they all hurt a bit when ESPN loses subscribers, but streaming services offer ESPN. Now, I forget if it was the write-up in Fangraphs or BP (both were good), but it was pointed out this doesn't mean the RSN model is dead and kaput. It was a mismanaged situation by Sinclair/Diamond and they just racked up too much debt on the deal they couldn't stay afloat. This does not mean an RSN can't be profitable, but it certainly isn't the cash cow it was 15-20 years ago. The cable model revolves around bundling and making sure people are paying for stuff they don't watch. Not everybody is a sports fan, but every cable subscriber has ESPN. Every cable subscriber has Fox News and MSNBC, although I doubt there is anybody who watches both at this point.
  18. Norris has decent projections too among old friends out there. I suspect they may have a deal with one or two of those guys but are waiting on the roster spot from Mize/Skubal next week.
  19. Edwin Jackson was solid in 2009, and was a big part of the Scherzer/Granderson deal. I'd say the Tigers won the Joyce/Jackson trade. If Reese Olson gives the Tigers anything, a small portion of that value can be traced back to Matt Joyce.
