  1. There needs to be a line in the rulebook for it to be overturnable. There is no halfway rule, no wrist break rule. All that stuff is third hand hearsay passed down. The rule is umpire judgment, which makes it a difficult one for an umpire like Angel who completely lacks it.
  2. As for check swings, the rule is very vague... Umpire judgment. You can't really review/overturn that.
  3. I've seen the challenge system in action and endorse it completely.
  4. They are also roughly 20 games under .500 if you neglect their best 11 game stretch.
  5. On the ballot after the 2028 season, inducted in 2029. That assumes first ballot, which... I'm not 100% sold on. There's a lot more voters who hold things like domestic violence and drunk driving against players these days, and that number is only going to go up in the next five years.
  6. Arbitration eligible: Tyler Alexander Akil Baddoo (I think, he is above my projected Super 2 Cutoff) Carson Kelly (If option is declined) Austin Meadows Casey Mize Jake Rogers Tarik Skubal Spencer Turnbill Trey Wingenter I've got Alex Lange as the first player below the Super 2 Cutoff. It's possible I'm off because counting days of service is tough.
  7. Out of options next year: Miguel Diaz Zach McKinstry Zack Short Tyler Nevin Joey Wentz Andrew Vasquez Nick Maton
  8. No, it's pretty typical.
  9. None of those. Flores, Dingler, and maybe Montero. From my sheet... Minor league free agent eligible. If re-signed to a minor league deal, they are Rule 5 eligible. 10. So you mean to say Sportskeeda.com isn't reliable?
  11. One friend I was talking to (who opted against the ol' vaccine and got a bad case of 2021 Delta) is still struggling with sense of taste. I think he said anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup is inedible.
  12. Another drag queen in Jacksonville caught with minors. Did I say drag queen? I meant youth group leader at a local church. My mistake.
  13. According to one study. Not doubting it, but beware the publication bias endemic to studies that may stray from the common knowledge.
  14. Also, who cares how much effort/money went into that gift? It's stupid he is even getting gifts and is not entitled. Good on the A's in this regard if this is a middle finger to this new custom.
  15. I got the updated COVID and Flu shots simultaneously Friday. No issues getting it in Florida. I probably shouldn't have drank as much as I did Friday night because Saturday morning was rough. I forgot to do shoulder press exercises the day before that I normally do, which helps reduce the arm pain because the deltoids are in regeneration mode. I still have some arm pain this time. 60 hours later.
  16. Senator Menendez getting indicted today...
  17. At this point I do expect Ibanez to stick around. He still has an option year if you need to stash him, hits lefties pretty well. You can do a lot worse. As for moving Holton to the rotation, I had the thought, especially when he was stretched out on Tuesday. The Rays have had success doing it with guys like Springs, Rasmussen, and now Littell. Granted the first two of those guys had elbows go sproing, but hey...
  18. If SGL has two more starts anywhere near like the first two and is still popping in the stuff metrics next Spring, I don't know how you don't have him in the rotation next year.
  19. Which somebody whose parents can send you to get two Ivy degrees without blinking can probably handle.
  20. So... As somebody a year older than Greenberg who flirted with the idea of trying to get into baseball, I have some unique thoughts. He's a guy whose dad owned the Rangers, who helped Mario Lemeiux buy the Penguins, etc. Was able to get two degrees from ivies. Was an unpaid intern for teams/MLB until he was 26, then joined the Cubs front office. Meanwhile, somebody who wasn't born into money had to pay his own way through school and racked up student loan debt couldn't possibly go the unpaid route for that long and be financially solvent. The financial necessity side of it is why I never tried to make the jump. No conclusions, just wanted to throw that out there that the infrastructure stacks the front office deck against a lot of people.

  22. Willi Castro has been sneaky decent this year. A lot of ink has been spilled on Candelario, but I probably would have held onto Willi if I had my drothers.
  23. GM has been #2 in command in most orgs for a while. That was always going to be the case. Title inflation doing its thing. I'm curious if there are other moves and departures. His background/expertise is pretty similar to Menzin's (By the way, I got the feeling he was pretty much the shadow GM toward the end of Avila's tenure).
  24. This is not really meant to be snide, but meant to be more pondery food for thought. How can y'all be in a position to judge the job Scott Harris has done when you don't even know who Brenan Hanifee is?
