  1. If they were offered contracts, their agents should be fired for incompetence for not accepting guaranteed money in 2023. Both guys are destined for NRI's next year. Free agents automatically hit free agency the morning after the world series ends. Players with options or opt outs have the next five days to resolve. Minor League free agents become free agents five days after. This is all procedural stuff that people are reading waaaaaay too much into.
  2. Menzin and Bream are white, which is a no go in Law's eyes. I doubt he knows the player dev leadership was overhauled last year.
  3. Most no-trade lists correlate pretty well with tax rates, when you look at it. Teams need permission to trade somebody to the Dodgers or Giants, but Mariners, Rays, Rangers are fair game. Related, a lot of unique deals are jock tax dodges. Liam Hendriks's current deal, for example. You can do things with signing bonuses and spreading them out or allowing them to be taxed in a home state instead of the state the games are played.
  4. Related, after a quick google search. https://www.hawkcentral.com/story/sports/college/columnists/chad-leistikow/2022/05/06/leistikow-college-professor-robin-lund-transformed-iowa-hawkeyes-baseball-program/9629115002/
  5. Teams have exclusive windows with departing free agents for five days.
  6. LOL at anybody thinking Robert Malone is credible.
  7. I hope Austin Meadows isn't in the opening day lineup, assuming the Rays start McClanahan.
  8. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-surprisingly-complex-world-of-minor-league-contracts/
  9. I'm also not sure that statistic is accurate. MLB's transaction logs don't differentiate minor league free agents and major league free agents. The minor league free agent transactions in the official log tend to be undrafted free agents. The Tigers have had an extra international complex team for a while now. More spots to fill.
  10. I don't think the low-labor pull-up-a-list mass email is a fair characterization.
  11. You need to fill more minor league holes when you have zero depth on the farm or your player development apparatus is inept and high to mid round college picks can't make high A.
  12. It was a failed rebuild because the whole notion of a rebuild is antiquated.
  13. It is going to be funny when all these waiver claims go through waivers again in the next month.
  14. It isn't lateral. He has more duties for the Tigers. Overseeing international is a big deal, and it is more of a top level job for amateur scouting.
  15. FWIW, I talked to a former Rays scout on another forum, and he said Metzler likely got paaaaaaaid to leave his situation in Tampa. (Also told me a hilarious story about when he interviewed with the Tigers at Winter Meetings, involving a random bloody nose and Jim Leyland running to the suite bathroom to get toilet paper to help him and laughing his ass off)
  16. Mitch Garver is a catcher I stumbled across who could be a good buy low. Had an injury plagued year, was Wally Pipped by Heim. Seems likely to be non-tendered.
  17. The Athletic ads are brutal. Not just the gambling, but the ever-changing supplements they push. It's what I imagine Alex Jones podcast ads sound like. Mushroom coffee, gluten free this, vegan that...
  18. Conan's banter is at least funny. His is on my feed because he is funny, so I don't mind funny banter.
  19. And the last 10 to a strip club story. Easy to skip over.
  20. It amazes me how so many people don't know this. My understanding is I am still not allowed to use Tik Tok because of my job. I suspect you are the same.
  21. The Padres made a lot of panic moves last year when they fell apart. I don't know where this fits into the scope, but they clearly wanted somebody else running their draft. I'm guessing Conner was under contract so he got reassigned. The fact that he left when offered an Amateur Scouting Director job tells me he viewed it as a demotion.
  22. Yes. College drunk stories aren't interesting, at all, bar none. Stavenhagen is good for a tidbit or two every month or so, but the other guy contributes nothing and is random Twitter fanboy. The random links of players to past Tigers via teammates last year was kinda dumb when you can just do Miggy to Inge to Higginson to Tram/Whataker to Mickey Stanley to Kaline for anybody in the last 70 years.
  23. The one I am thinking of that fits this description added a third.
  24. They kept their international scouting in place, so the ties are still there. Moore and Garcia are still employed. Metzler is just overseeing them. The contracts are just agreed to years ahead of time, so unless Metzler comes in and pulls the rug on some of those agreements, it's just too late for him to do anything. And it isn't like the Venezuelan pipeline has been overly strong for the Tigers lately. Who's the last player they signed from Venezuela who made the majors? Harold Castro?
