  1. Again with the weird audio clipping, this time on Pena’s mic. I really hope they fix this by regular season.
  2. Dan Dickerson announcing Tiger baseball on a brisk late-October evening.
  3. Starbursts needs to go away already.
  4. Starbursts needs to go away already.
  5. I'm guessing some element of intra-racial misogynoir and/or "burn it all down" accelerationism was in play.
  6. Evergreen comment, now more than ever.
  7. 🎶 In the courtroom of honor, the judge pounded his gavel To show that all's equal and that the courts are on the level And that the strings in the books ain't pulled and persuaded And that even the nobles get properly handled Once that the cops have chased after and caught 'em And that the ladder of law has no top and no bottom 🎶 Dylan wrote these lines more than sixty years ago, and even then he knew he could count on his listeners to get the joke.
  8. Anyone who thinks they’re actually going to limit the deportations to undocumented immigrants is deluding themselves.
  9. I remember reading someplace that **** Enberg stayed away from baseball announcing for years even though it was his favorite sport to call, precisely because his full plate with other sports meant that he wouldn't be able to do it on more than an occasional basis and baseball is the type of sport you have to be involved in regularly if you want to do it justice.
  10. I would assume Tinseltown rioters are more glamorous than Bubba Helms.
  11. Looks like we won’t have Bob Costas to kick around anymore. I still think he was a genuinely great announcer when he was working with Kubek back in the day. http://amp.awfulannouncing.com/mlb/bob-costas-retires.html
  12. I understand the William Ligues père et fils were interviewed about the two Yankee fans who tried to rip Mookie Betts’ arm off last night and were quoted as saying they were “amateurs”.
  13. I have to get up early for jury duty tomorrow, so I’m hoping we don’t get another extra-inning dealie.
  14. And also for Sue.
  15. I’ve long maintained that in many ways it’s easier to enjoy a really great game/series for what it is if you don’t have a rooting interest. You can savor the dramatic twists and turns without being wrapped up in the outcome. When the Tigers are involved, my preference will always be for a nice, boring blowout in favor of the good guys. Which I have to admit doesn’t make for very good sports theater.
  16. Game is tied.
  17. I can still remember watching that Gibby HR in my parents’ bedroom with my dad, my brother, and my brother’s friend who was staying with us for the evening. Us three boys were going nuts, and Dad (who hadn’t forgiven him for not re-signing with Detroit) just shook his head and said “Gibson” in flat disgust.
  18. Here's the Dodgers radio call. If you listen to the end you can hear a simultaneous nod to Vin Scully and Fernando Valenzuela.
  19. I listened to the ESPN Radio broadcast of the game. I can't find a clip of his call of the Freeman slam anywhere, but I fully expect Jon Sciambi to be hoarse for tomorrow night's game. That was the first walk-off grand slam in a WS game ever, by the way.
  20. Or perhaps enjoy the radio broadcasts of the 1963 WS, which featured a voice that will be familiar to most of you.
  21. I mean, if this were Boston I maybe could.
