  1. I have to get up early for jury duty tomorrow, so I’m hoping we don’t get another extra-inning dealie.
  2. And also for Sue.
  3. I’ve long maintained that in many ways it’s easier to enjoy a really great game/series for what it is if you don’t have a rooting interest. You can savor the dramatic twists and turns without being wrapped up in the outcome. When the Tigers are involved, my preference will always be for a nice, boring blowout in favor of the good guys. Which I have to admit doesn’t make for very good sports theater.
  4. Game is tied.
  5. I can still remember watching that Gibby HR in my parents’ bedroom with my dad, my brother, and my brother’s friend who was staying with us for the evening. Us three boys were going nuts, and Dad (who hadn’t forgiven him for not re-signing with Detroit) just shook his head and said “Gibson” in flat disgust.
  6. Here's the Dodgers radio call. If you listen to the end you can hear a simultaneous nod to Vin Scully and Fernando Valenzuela.
  7. I listened to the ESPN Radio broadcast of the game. I can't find a clip of his call of the Freeman slam anywhere, but I fully expect Jon Sciambi to be hoarse for tomorrow night's game. That was the first walk-off grand slam in a WS game ever, by the way.
  8. Or perhaps enjoy the radio broadcasts of the 1963 WS, which featured a voice that will be familiar to most of you.
  9. I mean, if this were Boston I maybe could.
  10. I don’t know what’s going to happen with the rest of the postseason teams this year, but I can tell you that it’s now my fondest hope that when Cleveland comes into Comerica for the first time next season the stands will be ringing with “1948” chants. I’m rooting for the drought is what I mean, I guess.
  11. You, know, just thinking off the top of my head here, but… it's almost kind of like it breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops, or something.
  12. Solid analysis from Andy Dirks. "Limit run scoring in this inning."
  13. Dan could really save wear and tear on his voice by just pre-recording that call and hitting the button when necessary.
  14. Dan and Andy sound surprisingly(?) sanguine about things on the radio.
  15. No Costas for the ALCS. Crew will be Anderson/Darling/Francoeur.
