Rove is a hack, he's obviously gonna tow the party line... but his instincts about how stuff will play outside of MAGAland are usually pretty sound, so it's notable.
-
Not the most important part of the exchange, but a media mouthpiece of the "Party of the Workin' Man"(c) shaming Zelensky for not wearing a suit is... something else.
-
Just my two cents, but I really think the Dems need to lean in on his embarrassing treatment if Ukraine a lot harder. JB Pritzker, who governs a state with late populations of Ukrainian and Polish Americans, seems like a good candidate to speak up on this.

I'm old enough to remember when these guys were going to "make us more respected" by the rest of the world. Certainly didn't see it in that display.... I saw them gang up and bully a leader whose country was invaded by one of our enemies (or at least enemies until 1/20/25 anyway), and I saw that leader basically tell them to pound sand, with full justification. Right to their face. Another day, another embarrassment.

We talk about the damage he will do domestically and, terrible as it is, you can squint and see ways that you can pick the pieces back up. The damage internationally? We're ****ed, no one will ever trust us again after this clown show.

Shameful behavior

The goal for the D Party (and the anti-Trump movement more generally) right now is to push back against this administration in anyway possible and, in 2026, win a bunch of elections. That requires more voters - certainly when you look at the outcome in 2024, it even requires some folks who voted for him. You don't have to give absolution or anything, but when people feel like they were lied to and betrayed by Trump, the natural response for a movement that wants to earn back power and win elections would be to take whatever help you can get and deal with the next charlatan or huckster when they come. Or even work on policy in a way that makes it harder for the next charlatan or huckster to gain the kind of following that Trump did.
-
Yes, it absolutely sucks.... but a movement whose leaders lie like they breathe and have no shame are always going to have it easier than the rest of us.
-
If there was one thing I could change about the rhetoric I see from the anti-Trump side, it would be to stop making these broad brush assumptions that all 49% are MAGA.... it's counterproductive on a number of levels

To be fair, I don't know that it's fair to expect all liberals to modulate their speech or feelings either.... and what politicians say and supporters say are two different things. I think it would be dumb for Schumer, Jeffries, or even AOC to go out and talk about FAFO and leopards eating faces, for instance.... but I suspect that almost all of them, even if there are tactical disagreements, would acknowledge that politics is about addition and not subtraction. And may not mimic the viral lines of the base voter.

Donald Trump won the overall popular vote by 1.5% nationally, and by roughly 200,000 votes spread over three states (PA, MI, WI).... small, subtle changes in the electorate over the next couple of years can and will make a huge difference. It's not about the Trumpers, it's not about the "red hats" as you like to call them.... most of those people are just gone. But there's a slice of the electorate that doesn't follow politics as closely as your or I do, who maybe don't love Donald Trump but remember the economy as being reasonably good between 2017-2019 (memory holing how he ****ed up 2020). We pretend like these people don't exist, but they do.... The "leopards" and "FAFO" stuff is fast food for liberals, and it isn't without a modicum of truth, but in order to build a coalition to push back on these guys, there's going to have to be an acceptance of people who realize or admit that they were lied to by this administration. It's annoying, I'll be the first to admit it, but it's reality.
-
I want to emphasize that it's incredibly hard with how terrible this administration is in so many respects.... but the "FAFO" and "Leopard's Eating Faces" stuff has to be balanced with the need to message to those who may have voted for him but feel betrayed by actions his administration have taken. Those people will be needed in any resistance efforts and in 2026. I'm not on Twitter anymore, but while Bsky is better and more civilized, I am seeing more of that kinda stuff than I'd like.

As frustrating as it is, this remains correct.
-
They are firing people all over government because they want to fire people all over government.
-
It'd look a lot more right wing if three of the columns weren't discussing arguably Trump's least popular policy position (ie. Russia)
-
I remember fondly when "President Musk" was just liberal hysteria and not, you know, reality.

What is Trump gonna do, take everyone's IPhone away?

Every single reversal should be treated as an admission of failure by DOGE. And the failures are piling up

"**** those kids"- @Tigeraholic1 probably

Is Susan Collins concerned yet?
-
Oh look, the Arsonists put out the fire and expects an attaboy*. *Except they didn't apparently
-
Same crowd that was hair on fire in 2022 now feels like lecturing everyone about "temporary pain"

Exactly right. Many Americans in particular love to revel in their independence of thought and action. And will continue to do so up until the moment that reality catches up with them

This thread from Rep. Casten (from the Chicago Suburbs) outlines why their Medicaid cuts would be devastating in practice and why they are trying their hardest to keep their intentions hidden as much as possible in this process. The bullet point list he gives for why it affects even those (like all of us I assume) who don't use it is spot on: Families have kids with physical and mental disabilities, and unless you are uber-wealthy, Medicaid is very likely going to be utilized to allow them to live a life of dignity. It's used to cover nursing home expenses. Especially for those without family to look after us, we maybe would need to rely on Medicaid to help finance the costs If you live in a rural area and rely on a hospital system which takes a lot of Medicaid patients, cutting Medicaid would result in worse care and/or hospital closures (this is one I harp on a lot because it's the likeliest biggest direct impact to my life should it go through) Slashing Medicaid will lead to less usage of preventative care services and force more people to utilize ERs, which are already overcrowded as it is. To quote @Tigeraholic1, woof....
